Through the whole winter would be a tough order. There are occasional periods the snow levels go up to 6-8k ft. I saw it my first couple winters here and they were still solid ones for pack.

Well yeah, we’re not Utah or Colorado. Ski resorts in the Rockies start at 7-8k, in the Cascades they start at 3.5k-5k. Not to mention they’re way farther from the ocean so it doesn’t really matter whether it’s a warm front or a cold front out there, it’s rarely going to rain at those elevations in the wintertime.

One hell of a view today. Wasn’t able to capture Mt.Baker yesterday but got it today! Will be getting photos of the full moon and the planets tonight.

Warm fronts can be great for mountain snow as long as they don’t penetrate too deeply.

From a skier's perspective, dry snow is better to ski on than wet snow. However, if you just want to build up snowpack and water supply, wet snow is great for that. Sometimes it even helps the resorts open earlier.

A lot of our greatest snow events (overrunning events) are also warm front patterns technically.

You can’t have a warm front without a cooler airmass in place in the first place.

Just looked at 12z runs. Models giveth and taketh away. We see a lot more in the taketh category 80/20? around there I bet. We need the block to set up a bit further east and trough to not dig so far south off Alaska. We're still 4 days before the ridge even reaches the Aleutians, so I would expect more changes over the next 2-3 days of model runs. The overall theme is a pattern change to wetter, chilly, and mountain snow. La Nina is here finally!

The EPS looks a bit better than the ECMWF operational, but the control is almost identical to the op run.  On the good side of the ledger there is strong indication the GOA blocking will last longer than originally shown.

I don't get that worked up about these November cold snaps, because I always have mixed feelings about them anyway.  Very often a big November results in a lousy January.  I would be perfectly happy with prolonged moderate cold as opposed to the big blast so early.

Looks like this thing is just going to turn out chilly instead of flat out cold t least in the shorter term.  With the GOA blocking being extended something big could come a bit later.  The models still show it getting cold to be sure, but just nothing to write home about.  Every run still brings some kind of a Canadian cold front through Seattle in about a week which will bring lows in the 20s for many of us.  Too early to be disappointed IMO.

It's finally going to rain a good bit with snow up yonder. Isn't the trend usually that the block is too far east, cold slides east? Seems lately it has been a matter of amplitude or degree of tilt. It would be unwisely wise to be wisely wising off the potential we have ahead. C'MON!!!!

I'm betting it's not going to be that wet.  GOA blocking isn't too conducive to that unless a good low spins up close to the coast or something.  There probably be some snow in the mountains though.  It's still a generally cold and somewhat dry pattern being advertised.

A mostly sunny 34/53 day, with a surprising amount of fall color. Surprising because so many trees got stripped by the outflow winds a week ago. Now 46°F. Would not be surprised to see frost again tomorrow morning, despite the forecast low being too warm for it. Last night overperformed on the cooling as well.

It's called clown range for a reason.

Perfect weather for Halloween with fall colors peaking under bright blue sunny skies.

Just got back from a very light round of trick or treating. A fair amount of kids out but not too crazy - was still able to keep our distance. One house had a "candy shoot" that they flew candy down a pipe into the kids bags. Pretty clever and fun way to still safely celebrate.

Nice!

i set up a table to grab from.  So far just a few kids.  I’ve got my singing pumpkins going with lightning and fog!  Look pretty cool.
