Interestingly the Puget Sound area has actually had a number of Arctic fronts come through over the past decade.  The most recent was early Feb 2019 several days before the epic snow event came.  It had the classic wind shift from SW to N and everything stayed totally frozen during the day as it moved through.  They are kind of cool.

Fog never really developed last night so it got colder as a result. Finally back down into the 40s, first since 8/28. Low of 44.

One that immediately comes to mind was 11/15/2003, I was at school in Beaverton that day and the temperature was 33-34 degrees at NOON with wet snow falling. After that I'm not really sure how many times it's happened in the metro area over the years. That was a fun time period as a kid, Jan 2004 and Dec 2008 were the only two times I had a full week off school due to snow. 

In Oct 2003 (forgot the date, 9th maybe) we had a nice thunderstorm which also happened at school around 11-12:00. Some pretty close bolts.

There was another arctic front I had in March 2012, on the 31st I think. In 1 hour it drops 15 degrees at KLMT, changing from moderate rain to heavy snow almost instantly. It also did some crazy things in central Oregon. 

That day I had both my high and low temperatures in about a 50 minute time frame in the late morning.

It's too bad we had to start off October completely dry. It's such a wet month that having it start completely dry the first 10 days will make it much harder to reach average and alleviate the drought.

10/05/2011 - Cold core convection 9 years ago today created some really heavy graupel storms. A little to my south were a couple distant lightning flashes, not close enough to hear thunder so unfortunately I did not record that day as a thunderstorm. It's rare in K-Falls but we can at times get a cold core t'storm with temps in the low 40's (I had one on April 28 2018).

The last photo had a bit of added contrast, back then I used a rather inferior camera. At least I don't photoshop my stuff. That cloud did look real crazy approaching.

Same here. Not sure how Dec 2008 did in Klamath Falls as I didn't come to this town until Nov 30 2010. Feb 2011 was nice (think that one came second to Feb 2019!) and Nov 2010 was massive in southern OR.

Nov 2010, 1985 and 1955 I'm pretty sure were all top 3 tier for November snow/cold in K-Falls. We had a low of -4 and 12+ inches snow depth a week before I moved here.

Looking at the seasonal long term models, it looks like we stay more or less above average through December. Then a signal begins emerging for a cooler than average January, and a very strong signal for below average temperatures February-April. Which makes sense for a moderate Nina.
