Here's the snow thus far

By far the most impressive October storm I've witnessed here since 2012 when I bought property. Ended up with 9 inches of powder and is currently 22 degrees down from 24 at 9am.

Just catching up to everything this morning. I think given that the user base of the forum has been somewhat of a close knit community for 15+ years, there is a bit of leeway given when it comes to be

I will cherish each and every nice day (sunny & dry) throughout the rest of Oct and early Nov if there's anything left. This is a La Nina. We might not see such conditions for the next 5+ months. The cold and damp will be here before we know it. Even mountain snow will almost certainly melt out this early in the year. Have some patience. I'll be aboard the cold train along with everyone else.

Extended cold and damp is rare enough these days I wouldn’t take it for granted, even with a strong La Niña.

Completely off topic but I was called an unpatriotic piece of s*** earlier this evening after my family found out that I have never voted in this country and I never will.

It is the first time I've ever been berated by my family and certain extended family members.

As a result I have officially alienated my mother, father, sister and a couple in-laws, I'm done ******* around and being made to feel that I'm less  than others or not an american citizen b/c of the choices I make.

**** 'em

Sounds like you should vote.

Why?

I don't see the need nor the importance, my individual vote does not count in any way whatsoever, it's not like an election hinges on a single swing vote. I just don't see the point or value in the American electorate process.

So why vote when in the grand scheme of things, it truly doesn't matter.

I don't necessary agree or disagree, but this should obviously not be in this forum.

Compared to 12z runs yesterday, 00z runs tonight improved with the EURO op the lone exception. Will the 6z GFS this morning bring it home? .... 6z NAM looks pretty good if we were to extrapolate out to Day 6-7. C'MON!!!!

I'm just about a believer on this now.  The 6z GFS and its ensemble were flat out cold and the EPS continues to trend colder.  It looked like at least half of the GFS ensemble members dropped to -4 or below on the 850s.  I see the CFS is also showing it which is a really good sign.  It is actually pretty good when it shows cold shots like this in the shorter range.

When did our arctic blast happen last October? Maybe this is the new climate normal.

i c e a g e ?

There were actually three arctic airmasses last fall, one at the very end of September, one about 10 days later, and then a final shot around the 29th of October.

Yep, I remembered a few different continental airmasses, but couldn't remember the exact dates. Thanks!

I really loved last fall. Much better than the actual winter that showed up.

There was some pretty impressive cold for late September and October last year. Set records at my house. Last fall in general was very interesting...dry but chilly made for beautiful leaf colors and lots of amazing sunrises and sunsets.

Total snow per the 12Z GFS... Portland gets screwed again!    Even in October when blizzards are very common on the west side of the Cascades.   They can't win down there.

Why did you get a downvote? All you did was post the temps for Hillsboro. Hillsboro Envy?

I''m actually glad to know that.  Our high was 83F so we were one higher then HIO and our low was 46F and no sun till noonish.

How much different is HIO then PDX's weather?

Somebody doesn't like people who like 80 degree temperatures, especially in October.

This may be the earliest I’ve seen that much snowfall on a snow map. Can’t remember seeing that much accumulation on any snow maps this early around here. Fun to look at atleast could you imagine if this verified.
