Calm before the storm down here tonight. This thread is for the 3 days or so around the storm but to close out an October with a 7 day stretch like this is going to be pretty memorable to me. This October will probably rank in the top 10 for cold here after its all done. Got my rainfall all in. What an October. Been around 19 to 20 years or so....

That secondary heavy snow band down from Kansas through Missouri has been shown consistently for days and the NWS clearly isn't weighing it into their forecast. Not sure why that would be. Not even mentioning it in the discussion is pretty lazy

Potential high of only 18 degrees Monday and the low Monday night, if skies clear, is forecast to hit 5 degrees. Record breaking cold for so early in the season.

Need that "BRRR" icon! (prolly need it a lot this cold season the way it's looking)

00z Euro...for a late October storm, this is impressive in many ways when you consider the cold and the amount of snow that could potentially fall.  I'm really curious to see if these kuchera snowfall totals pan out given the cold temps and higher snow ratios.  Good thing is, for maximizing snow accumulations, those of you out in NE/IA have had about 24-36 hours of cold air to cool the ground surfaces.  Good luck to all!  Let it snow....

Look at those amount in the CO mountains. Ski resorts should have a banner kick-off to their season. Wish I was able to experience one of those resorts, but never have made it out there during winter.

How much are you expecting your way, maybe pull 5 or 6 inches.

Local forecast is 5-6 inches. It should be a dry snow that blows and drifts. Grocery stores are packed this morning, even though it won’t be a shutdown blizzard. First storm of the year always scares people.

Be safe and enjoy it!  People down here can't drive well on dry pavement, tomorrow will be interesting lol.

Thanks. Around here, being a rural community of 5600 people, it seems like most people have some type of 4 wheel drive pickup or all wheel drive car. I laugh at our school parking lot at the amount of pickups I see driven by guys and gals.

That's funny to hear. I met a girl from Holdredge in my UNL freshman orientation and I always wonder what life is like in every town. My little Toyota front wheel drive probably wouldn't hold up over there haha. Last winter was my first one with my car up here so maybe that was a blessing in disguise. Ice on my windshield as I'm typing so I guess there's been a little freezing drizzle this morning.

OAX original 1-3" call looking a lot more likely now. Hoping for the higher end, expecting the lower end. Like other people have mentioned though, any snow on the ground in Oct is a bonus.
