10/25-10/27 Winter Storm & Cold Snap

My neighborhood is a sheet of ice. Main streets are mostly fine but side/residential are crap, no surprise there. Though I did see a crashed car on 27th street, so there's that. Looks like we'll get some mood flakes this afternoon, but I doubt there will be any additional accumulation. Way more of Feburary than October look out there today. Snow this early is usually gone as soon as it stops falling.

The heavy band has finally exited.  Easily 1" an hour snow rates.  One more band is coming through, but with lighter snow.  I will have to do some snow removal after school.  Currently 14 degrees but zero wind, so no wind chill.

Brrrrr!!  It’s amazing to see such cold temps and with the snow falling.  I’m sure you’ll remember this for years to come.  #powderdays

32 degrees while a small band is pushing through Chi suburbs. Grass and cars starting to get covered

It’s coming down good now and I’m getting a slight accumulation on grass, deck and roof tops.  Should be an official 0.1”+ snowfall of the season.   Usual average date is Nov 17th so we are ahead of schedule.

Sun has now come out.  What a beautiful scene at 18 degrees as of 12 Noon.  I don't remember the last time the sun shown.  At least a week.

Congrats to all that have had snow the past couple days.

If we are comparing an early snowfall like last year then it's not a good sign because I remember what happened after the Halloween snow...not much of a winter after that. Hopefully this year is different and DJF are better months.

Looks pretty boring for awhile.  Hope this pattern cycles back through, it would be amazing during actual winter months.

More sunshine than expected today so most of it is melted. Lots of bare grass and then 1-2” left in shaded areas. And this is with temps still below freezing. Still not bad for the first snow of the year. Let’s hope the 2.9” won’t remain the biggest snow.

Been thinking about Oct snows and Tbh Oct 2013 was the last measurable here in Marshall. Even Nov is likely only a 50/50 shot with long stretches of snowless Novembers a reality (just 1.2" avg). Seeing how our autumn is running ahead of average I looked at my 7 yrs of personal data and surprisingly Nov snow is the new norm with 5 of 7 having significant totals. While WxBell's current analog set would call for an AN to much AN Nov, I'm thinking that would be a bit out of place against what we've seen the past two months. JB did say he is holding 3 other analogs in the wings depending on how October went and I think they all featured colder November's here. I am looking forward to his next update but as of now I'm thinking odds favor at least some measurable ❄ for SMI next month. Thoughts?

Officially 1.6” of snow reported at Eppley Airfield, with heavier totals of 2 to 3 inches of snow common across western sections of the metro (where I live).

Also, the record low for Omaha of 20 degrees was set this morning, so this one will go in the record books... with a good chance of setting another record low tomorrow morning.

Literally unbelievable. Thank you for sharing that!

Also great pics @Clinton!

And that's unbelievable about Albuquerque!

Great start to the cold season for a lot of us. I know we have a lull coming up but I feel we're gonna rock n roll this season.

Cheers🥂

Rapid City,SD was -7F this morning. The earliest sub 0 and sub -5F on record, also the 4th consecutive day of min/max record being broken and 7 outta of the last 9. Today's high was 14F. The old min/max for today was 33F in 1976. 19F is CRUSHING a record.image.png.966f45441e23a382a99c07ec43a96471.png

What I truly like about this pic also, which I forgot to mention yesterday, is that small, clear hole in the overcast sky in the far distance. Really adds beauty to this pic. You should definitely frame this pic. Good job!

Looks like right at sunrise the clouds cleared and my temp went to 10 degrees.  Record low if this verifies.  Would have been colder with the snowpack, but clouds and a light wind kept temps higher overnight.

My, that’s cold! The coldest I had so far is 29° at least twice including this morning. Glad the really cold lows stayed away so far. Cloudy nights helped!

iPhones are great for photos, but the older models weren’t very good in low light though. Which model do you have? I should get a new one, but the latest costs a fortune!
