Looks like a delightfully crisp weekend coming up with brisk northerly breezes during the day.  Certainly going to get us in the mood for winter.  Could be some low to mid 20s in the colder spots Sunday and Monday mornings.  Looking a bit further down the road the ECMWF depicts an astonishingly huge area of surface high pressure dominating the NE and NC Pacific during the 6 to 10 day period.  Looking good for one of the blockier type La Nina winters as opposed to raging zonal flow for now at least.

Pretty crappy pattern upcoming for WAFz thru Pacific. Equatorward EP flux, rossby wave dispersion, etc. Polar vortex is gonna wrap up like sharknado over the next few weeks. 😐

Long range EPS gets more interesting with the tropical forcing late in November, however, with hints of upper level divergence returning to the IPWP. Odds of blocking seem to increase around Thanksgiving.

Only got down to 46 this morning with breezy N winds overnight. Picked up 0.42” yesterday and another 0.07” this morning to hit 1.69” for November. 

Tacoma WA elevation 300’

Monthly rainfall-3.56”

I loved the back and forth with Jon's points about the U.S. being total hypocrites about our stated goals and framed arguments for our actions, and David's simple response is "And so we've got to make a really hard and bad choice, which is, do we want to be the one trying to-- to fill that void with our technology and our principles, understanding that we violate them all the time? Or do we want to let an authoritarian regime go fill that space, which we know how that's going to look?" A simple yet incredibly hard to refute response. We are the most benevolent imperialist power. We f*ck up a lot of stuff around the world, but do you want them to fix things or us? The other interesting point that is pretty obvious is that China will throw as much as it can into catching up to TSMC, whether it is by ingenuity or theft, and as soon as they are, Taiwan is theirs. Will the U.S. go to war over that? Dunno. There's no going back to fix our mistakes, and competition is really heating up around the world. The next few decades are going to be very interesting.

      April 2024 Weather in the PNW

      Ensembles look a little better for rainfall chances later this week than the operational. Although the trend lately has been for everything to warm up and dry out as it approaches so it wouldn’t surprise me to see this meet the same fate.
