Is there a chance of thundersnow? Seeing lots of cumulus activity out and about.

And I imagine these sunbreaks are helping to make things not so stable.

Back in town. Pretty chilly day. High of just 49 and that was at midnight. Has been in the mid to upper 40s most of the afternoon with light to moderate rain. Some decent wraparound moisture with this system.

Moderate rain and 47 currently.

OT but wow didn’t realize Las Vegas might see rain this weekend for the first time in 200days which destroys the previous record of 150 days in 1959.  This also happened during their wet season which is summer which is even more unusual.

The Monsoon this year was Awol. Last 2 years were the 2 worst monsoon seasons recorded.

The 12z GFS depiction for 4 PM today.  Rain to the south, meanwhile it's still coming down pretty good here.  Showed the last rain in my area around noon.

2 AM high of 51 here with 0.47" of rain so far.

Deformation area is stretching further north than modeled. Which seems to be somewhat common.

Was typing in data at work and one number was 1949. This winter is meant to be.

That proceeded to be the snowiest January on record here.

Liking what we’re seeing on the models with lots of rain and mountain snow. Should be enough to start building some snowpack. Should also be our wettest November since 2017 last 2 have been on the drier side. Hoping we can get our first freeze of the season this week as well after having a 66/59 spread yesterday.

Breezy chilly north winds ripping through here.

I love these north wind cold snaps.  The East Puget Sound Lowlands usually do really well with low temps and snow (when applicable) with north wind vs east cold snaps.  Today was just a taste of what tomorrow will bring.  At least 5 degrees cooler and even breezier tomorrow.  The 18z ECMWF spits out a 42 / 30 day for SEA on Monday.  That is solid cold for this early.

You will certainly get your first freeze.  Don't forget to mention the chill continues as well as the wetter pattern you are talking about next week.

BTW the warm day was Wednesday.

This is the kind of pattern they have had when they have had their best years.  They still hold the world record with 1,140 inches during 1998-1999

And Paradise on Mt Rainier had the record before that in 1971-72 I believe...or maybe 1970-71.

Wednesday was really warm at 66/59...looked through my records and it was the warmest minimum temp I’ve recorded in the month of November. Previous record was 56 on 11/22/17.

That was a notable spike.  That is actually common before significant cold waves.  Sometimes we go right from a torch into the freezer.  December 1924 was the most famous example of that.

This is a graph of the low temperatures at my station since June 1st...
The low of 59.7 on the 4th certainly stands out. I've labeled the 4 other days with a temperature at or above that.

Untitled.jpg

I had a low of 69 on May 10th this year.  That was a tremendous anomaly.  According to the Landsburg records that was earlier than any similar occurrence on record by about 6 weeks.  Their records go back over a century.
