He was ruling over you, mass-murdering people? That verbage seems a bit extreme to me. Feels like you're giving your power away so easily.

How did you get that out of what I said?  I was just saying everything that happened left me a little bit off my game.

You are a very forgiving person to say the least.

Amazing what an F'd up year this has been for so many.  My list is sort of like yours.  First of all I use explosives for my hard rock mining hobby and I had a shot go off while I was in the mine (due to utter stupidity on my part).  Left me with a torn up shoulder, a big knot on my cheek, and a ringing right ear that lasted for about two days.  I was insanely lucky and ended up totally healing other than some shoulder scars.  Later in the year I had a severe urinary tract infection that turned into prostatitis.  I was either sick or felt like I was peeing razor blades or both for about three weeks total.  Earlier in the year there was an illegal alien fugitive in the area of my gold mine that killed a hunter near Liberty.  I was up there at the same time this idiot was on a reign of terror in the area. They still haven't found the body of the poor guy that was killed.  That one hit really close to home to say the least.  I'm still trying to regain my full confidence level after all of this in combination with all of the other dystopian crap that's going on..

Dystopian is the perfect way to describe it. Reminds me of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.

The rest of the story on that one is the illegal was detained in King County for lesser crimes earlier this year.  They let him go because of sanctuary policies of course and now a man is dead because of him and Kittitas County spent a month and a lot of resources to finally apprehend him.  A complete travesty.

The GFS advertises yet another Canadian cold front just after day 10.  Might be a theme emerging here.

Hope they find the guy he murdered. I remember this happening because me and my brother go up to that blewett pass area often. We were going to head up there in May this year but then learned of the manhunt going on...very beautiful area though.

It sure is.  I was incredibly thankful when they apprehended him and it was safe to go up there again.  The victim may never be found.  There are a lot of animals, mine shafts, and places to hide a body up there.

FWIW the last parallel GFS run which was run about a day ago shows another solid cold shot just after mid month.  The 0z EPS control model did as well.  The recurring GOA blocking looks like it has a good chance of continuing.

23 in OLM this morning.  That is really impressive considering there were still a lot of breezy areas around last night.  This is two separate cold snaps to bring lows in the low 20s to the Western Lowlands before November 10. That is incredibly rare.  SEA checked in with 33 which is pretty solid for them.  Looking at that last GFS parallel run again it was cold for the entire 10 to 16 day period with some areas of lowland snow.  I like how the really big stuff is holding off though.  A lot of times the recurring cold will continue until we hit the jackpot at some point.  We want the jackpot when it REALLY counts.

Kind of interesting how the trees around here that were green before the last cold snap hit turned absolutely gorgeous this year.  That is in sharp contrast to the ones that tuned ugly brownish yellow before the cold.  Talk about a contrast between early fall and mid / late fall this year.

These low dew points coupled with the chilly airmass could produce some cold lows tonight.

SLE hit 32 and PDX did sneak down to 35.

The ECMWF is now going for a high of 41 for SEA tomorrow.  That is going to be a really cold day with morning lows below freezing.  The surface obs projections now keep temps below normal through next Monday.  That model keeps delaying the warmer pattern and other models don't really show a warm up at all.  There will be moderation from what we are currently seeing, but still below normal for a while.

Amazing, I didn't realize a lake of that size was capable of generating significant snowfall. Must be some good supporting orographics in the area.

No orographics at all. Just cold air over warm water. We had record warmth for all of Oct that kept the lake way warmer than usual. Having our first storm be arctic air is pretty unusual. It happens about every 5 years or so. Pyramid lake near Reno also gets lake effect squals. We were getting 4" and hour rates near the shoreline of Tahoe which was amazing.

The lake is certainly the driving force but it looks like there are some decent sized hills to the south of it. In lake-effects events that can amplify typical lake-effect snow as cold air piles against the hills, increasing instability. Even when you aren't at elevation it still helps a lot having favorable orographics downwind of you. We sometimes get it on the east side of the island up here as well. Sounds like the perfect storm of contributing factors down there with the lake being that warm.

The 18z GFS is a little bit sharper / colder with the next trough than previous runs.  The challenge with that one will be to get the gunk cleared out (so we can get cold nights) once the trough is in place due to weak surface pressure gradients.  A sharper trough will help with that.

In the longer range the GOA ridge just keeps popping back up.  Looking like the behavior of a consistently cold winter in the works.  At least looking at winters like that in the past.
