Just got the Fusion Pass yesterday for Timberline + Skibowl. Meadows season passes were unfortunately sold out. Aiming for at least 15 days this season on the mountain, hopefully I can make 20.

Low of 26* at 5:13am

Currently 33* with clouds

Watching this weekends storm with great interest. It’s been all over the place with Oregon now being it’s target.
Storm watching along the Oregon coast would be epic if it does happen.
Time to go fill the gas cans regardless of where ,when or if this storm develops. Wood being delivered tomorrow.

For comparison, here are other recent Ninas and their ASO number.

2016: -.7

2011: -.9

2010: -1.6

2007: -1.1

I would think SON will be at least -1.1C, but we will see. Still solid Niña territory.

It will definitely go lower, as the 3.4 region is already in major Nina territory.  And, in comparison to the other years, the SSTs were pretty much neutral in the summer and early fall, where some of the other years the SST's were already in nina territory by then.    In 2010, for example, the July-September ONI was at -1.4, where this year it was at -0.6.

The next months numbers will replace August, where the Nina was very weak, with November, where it is at -1.5 or lower.

We will be watching those 10am 6hr mins with great anticipation. Both SLE and EUG reported hourly temps which were within 1 degree of record lows.

Right, I just meant I thought ASO might be lower, given how much ENSO regions have cooled since the summer.

Yep. It sucks. You have to wait for the 6hr max and min temps to get the lowest/highest reading. In this case, it came out at 10:00am or so. The next one is at 4:00pm, etc.

Fwiw, I like what I’m seeing in the evolution of the momentum budget going forward. More analogous to the blockier subset of -ENSO years rolled forward.

As epic as the mountain forecasts look, it’s good that we’re getting this tight PV / +AO phase over with in November instead of midwinter.

As soon as the calendar flips to December and that PV loosens up a bit...
