The most recent major damaging windstorm. We’ve had several big windstorms since...but none of them have matched the power of this one.

I don’t want that one again.

it destroyed my Christmas decoration display and power was out for a week. Countless trees down everywhere.

Was very extreme. Power was out for 3 days here which for this area is a long time. I was 7 when it happened but I remember it pretty well. It was a very powerful storm hard to forget.

Yeah, that was by far the strongest storm I've ever lived through. Wind gusted to 85 mph just about a mile from my house and there were so many power poles snapped that we couldn't even leave our neighborhood for more than a day afterward. We were out of power for a week following that, actually one of the last times we've lost power.

I unfortunately didn't have my weather station up at that point, but probably would have registered gusts above 60 even though it's pretty sheltered.

I'd be fine if we didn't have one quite that strong. I remember going to sleep hearing nothing but wood cracking all around and praying that nothing would hit the house. Woke up the next morning and it looked like a war zone across our 5 acre property at the time. Literally could not see the grass there were so many trees, branches, etc. down everywhere.

Apparently our power was out for a week but luckily for us, we flew out to the Caribbean the morning after. Getting to the airport was... a challenge.

A couple notches down from that and I'd be a happy camper.  😀

I’d be happy with something not quite that powerful either. Once you start getting gusts over 60mph thats not good. The windstorm we had 12/20/18 was a good one then we had another one on 1/6/19. Both produced 60mph gusts but it wasn’t to the point it was scary.

When I was 7 I lived on the 3rd floor of a condo right above the narrows about 2 miles north of the bridge. We could actually feel the building shaking when the winds were hitting. I have no idea how strong the winds were but the narrows is like a wind funnel so probably 80mph. I can remember seeing all the substations flashing looking outside as the storm rolled through. That was pretty crazy and scary as well.

The 2006 storm wasn't nearly as strong down here, but I definitely remember leaving my dad's work Christmas party driving down Mill Plain (a major road through Vancouver) and seeing a huge power flash and everything went out.  Even the stop lights weren't blinking.  It was a fun drive home through that mess.

Yeah it was a good windstorm for my area as well but not one of the epic ones. Power was still out around Lake Goodwin where I was living for about 24hrs but places south got nuked. I remember driving to Moses Lake several days later and most areas from I-405 to I-90 were all dark all the way to the summit of Snoqualmie.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Anyone remember the 1981 wind storm, also about this time of year?

https://climate.washington.edu/stormking/November1981.html#:~:text=The November 13-14%2C 1981 windstorm followed just such a,80.5 mph average peak gust.

That was less than 3 years from the 1979 storm that sank part of the hood canal bridge.  And there was also the Thanksgiving 1983 storm too.

Agree on notching it down a bit.  The fir trees were violently blowing and as you said the cracking of trees singing in the night was disturbing and scary.

I don’t remember 79 since I was not quite 3yrs old but I very vaguely remember 81 but 83 is what got me super interested in the weather and windstorms! That was super memorable for me!

Swing and a miss!   Wasn’t the weather channel out here for that one?  They were out here for one of our classic wind events and it was a none event.  Poor Jim Cantore . No refunds given either

I remember transformers lighting up the sky on both events!
I was living in Portland at the time.  Back when we would get a couple good blows every fall.  The high winds didn’t bug me then since I didn’t own a house.

That Hanukkah Eve Storm was the end of finals week for me and I actually was not all that intoxicated. I just remember us sitting outside under our covered patio and it was like 50-ish degrees with the occasional blustery moment and some decent rain, then it got quite a bit colder as the night went on.

The next day I read about how it was a significant event up north. And was like, well at least we didn't lose power while playing Halo 2.

Remember that one too !!! I was only 7 years old, but still have vivid memories of how hard the wind was blowing. No power... in the dark, but the thing I remember most from that night is the noise ! My moms sister called us on the phone in hysterics saying Shelton was blowing away !!! Very scary night !!

Interseting that this storm may occur on another Friday, 11/13.

I was 12 living in Stayton, OR and it is still the most intense windstorm I have ever experienced.

Spent that Saturday cleaning up my house, my grandparent's house and a friend's house.

So many trees down in the mid valley. Power out for days.

I love extremes but I don't need a repeat of that now.

00z GFS initializing the disturbance ejecting out of the western Pac differently. Quite differently, in fact. I wonder if it will form sooner and be weaker on landfall/further north. We'll see soon enough...
