Jesse is not going to be surprised by this, but I really like the long range GFS.

Wowzers. GFS says it looks to be the stormiest November in quite awhile. Very active, rainy, windy, mountain snow, atmospheric river. Yikes. Glad I cleaned the gutters.

Got down to 30 last night.  Had to use the ice scraper this morning, first “real” frost of the year for me.

Air must have been too dry for frost with all the other freezes. We had a couple like that here too last week of October.

This is probably the first one you are old enough to appreciate. They can be a lot of fun.

I know I am in a minority here but I really enjoyed 2007-08. Especially considering how rare the default weather we saw that winter had been in the several years preceding.

That’s how my first freeze was a couple of weeks ago. There were frozen puddles but no frost anywhere. Outflow winds were blowing and dew point was in the teens. I’ve had several frosts since then, but last night’s was by far the heaviest.

It's called clown range for a reason.

Sort of a rare way to get a first freeze around here.

Less rare for Whatcom County.

I foresaw this sort of response.

Probably much more common for Whatcom to see their first freeze thanks to radiational cooling. First freeze thanks to a well mixed modified arctic airmass is rare even up there.

2007-08 looks like a very enjoyable winter, best snow year in the Cascades since 98-99. Had two windstorms (although one was in November and not in met winter) and a ton of cold fronts. As a skier I probably would have enjoyed it.

You would've lost your s*** skiing in the Cascades, esp the Wa Cascades in '98 - '99.

I hit D**n near every ski resort from baker to Bachelor that winter.

Arctic blasts are colder up this way. We had a 19/13 day last January. That was definitely cold, but not as anomalous as a similar readings would be in Portland. This applies even to early-season “arctic” blasts. It should not be a surprise that a blast that fails to drop below freezing in most places except if the wind dies down and allows the atmosphere to decouple can freeze up here even if the wind persists.

That wasn't his point. He was saying getting your first freeze of the season that way was very unusual.

And I am saying that it is not unusual for a blast doesn’t drop below freezing in most places to do so here. So far as the first freeze being the result of a blast, I saw that happen (a bit later in the season) when I lived in Seattle and Portland, too. It is not the norm, but it is not “very unusual,” either.
