I haven't seen the radar this active in a long time! Strange that this should be a foreign sight in late Fall.

I still have to think that the Columbus Day storm would beat it. The Columbus Day cyclone was a tightly-packed pinhole low that produced ungodly pressure gradients in the heels of a retreating high pressure system. And even still, it vastly overperformed its average potential.

The good thing about this storm is that the gradients are largely spread out along the coastline, save for the immediate vicinity surrounding the low, so that even in ground zero the pressure gradients wouldn't be skyrocketing outside of climatology.

Yeah size matters..just not in usual direction.

The baroclinic gradient might be just as important. The big stuff won’t mix down without efficient momentum transfer.

This is a pretty cold rain I have to say. 37 and moderate rain. (KLMT says "Light rain" SMH)

So far only gusts in the mid-20's but I don't think I'm expecting a big wind here anyway.

Very heavy rain now!! Almost dark as night as well! A little spooky!

Chris will be with you shortly.

I'm seeing that you ordered an "It's light here" comment, something downplaying current and upcoming weather events in a sort of half-assed way, and a mindless shoutout to 11/20/2020

Or if it moved North and east in the sweet spot giving the puget sound a huge windstorm! It wont do either but nice to dream.

Storms like the one projected for Tuesday have ended up moving towards the coast and produced historic windstorms. Doesn’t happen too often but it can.

Looks like we’re in the rain shadow for now. We’re up to 0.56” today and 2.70” for the month now. Through the first 13 days of the month 9 have had rainfall. Quite the contrast to November 2019 when we had 11 total days of rainfall the entire month and only 1.83” of total rainfall.

GFS and a decent cluster of EPS also members establish a Urals High in the extended range.

Worth monitoring. Could portend a PV weakening or stratwarm event in December, assuming the pattern actually unfolds as modeled.

Looks like Hoodoo at Santiam Pass never switched to rain and is up to a 20" base now.

1.60" of rain so far at with this system. 4.85" on the month, about up to average now, should start going above. Power has been out at the house since about 2am.

Was listening to cliff masses friday podcast this morning he was talking about the potential for a big storm on Tuesday. The low on Tuesday is definitely taking a much better track than the potential track for the friday system was showing a couple days ago. It could be one of those storms that keeps all the damaging winds either offshore or just at the coastline or come in a little farther and deliver a big windstorm. Either way at the very least there will be breezy winds, lots of rain and mountain snows coming up with or without a major windstorm. Glad this November is actually acting like November.

Looks like I am behind schedule. This was 2yrs ago today...Well it looks like a February 2019 redux is off the table now. However in 2008 I didn’t get the outside lights up until the first week of December. Wondering if I should wait.

2008 was way better than 2019, at least for me.

When are as the last time a sub 960mb low land landfall on Vancouver Island?

The details on track mean we wouldn't see a major windstorm, but it wouldn't take much to change that.
