Light drizzle here after a nice 6 hour pouring. Hoping for some 40mph+ gusts later tonight; I'll be up for them.

00z UKMET swings a tight pressure gradient over us. Looks like PDX-EUG -10 to -11mb. I do not have a wind gust map.
sfcwind_mslp.us_nw.png

I don't have it with my Weather Models subscription, but I'm sure that would translate to 50mph+ gusts from about Salem upward to Canada. That's about a 0.25mbar/mi gradient. Some very serious stuff.

Given the very fast movement north the pressure rises would be very sharp. Big winds.

Medford NWS sounds quite bullish for southern Oregon. This is associated with the triple point low/wave that races northward.

Guidance is showing a very potent negatively-tilted trough moving onshore into SW Oregon late Monday night into Tuesday morning. Model 700 mb winds are 70-80 kt and pressure gradients once again are very impressive across our forecast area (10 to 12 MB RDD-MFR and ACV- OTH). This time, many more locations, including here in the Rogue Valley, could potentially be impacted by strong, damaging winds. The reason for this is the negative tilt to this system, such that winds will be able to align with the Shasta and Rogue Valleys. Some of our strongest wind storms occur in these types of events. Be on the lookout for headlines concerning this event over the next few shifts. -Spilde

Holy crap! Here's up north. Seriously, everyone needs to keep an eye on this. This could be a quick, but very potent windstorm if all the dice roll in the right way.

Wow!  A 962 low off of Vancouver island on Tuesday morning and then we go into a chilly / quiet interlude.  The 0z GFS shows 850s below normal for much of the next two weeks.  Not a lot not to like about how this is unfolding.

Euro brings it slightly closer but keeps the cyclone, and its subsequent gradients, weaker. Overall, very similar winds to the 12z But it's an outlier with its weak strength, and climatology suggests a deeper central pressure with that kind of track.

I'm not sold.  These "sucker" storms usually don't effect the Seattle area nearly so profoundly as what is being shown.  Given the somewhat unusual nature of the situation being shown there could be surprises though.

I think this will actually bring some pretty chilly temps for us.  The Euro surface temperature maps have been advertising a return to freezing low temps later in the week.
