What are your thoughts right now? GFS doesn’t show this sort of scenario even on the latest run...

I'm thinking the low should turn more sharply to the north soon and exit jet energy should weaken some leading to the low to peak out fairly soon and perhaps weaken as it moves north of ~45 N. I guess we'll see....

Still should result in some gusty winds, especially seeing how much stronger the low is than modeled (if I’m understanding that correctly).

What are we guessing for wind speeds boys

My conservative guess is 110 kts sustained, gusting to 150. Some of the smaller, regional jets are going to be dark horse picks for those STOL competitions and we all go to our Tornado shelters and eat our SHTF rations that we've been hoarding since March.

Been a gusty morning! It even started a bit before my wind advisory went into effect (12:30-1am).

My loudest gusts I'd say were between 1:00-2:00am. There appears to be a difference in gusts from up here to KLMT, as they are just now getting the 55mph memo from 36mph hours ago. Seems to be the opposite at the house as I would say things toned down a notch or two since the start of the event.

No power blinks or anything so far... so I must have been under the 60 mark. There will probably be isolated reports of limbs down in sections. There can easily be another wave of strong gusts through the afternoon. The front isn't even here yet.

I assume the sustained 101 mph, gusts to 118 mph at Cape Disappointment is just an equipment error?

According to FB we had a big blow 5yrs ago today. If I remember correctly it was the westerly surge that got us. 2 days without power at our old place which was rare for that location.

  • Storm 1

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

I thought there were supposed to be two lows? Is the south low shown here or the original?

I think the southern low is somewhere off the WA/OR coast currently if I’m not mistaken. Just not displayed on this map.

I’d charge my phones if I were y’all. Gonna get windy in the next 2 hours. Especially for anyone up north. This is the first decent wind event of the season so wouldn’t be surprised if this knocked out power to a lot of people as this is the first decent south wind in awhile. Even in the central and south sound.

Weird vibes going on outside. My highest trees are blowing up top but calm at ground level. Getting dark as well. Chainsaw coming with me today in case I have to cut my way back home.

2015 definitely ended on a stormy note.. Unrelated but I remember Keno reporting a gust near 90mph early that December. Probably just localized conditions made that possible as I had nothing higher than 67mph (01/19/2016 squall t'storm) over the last several years. Keno neighbors my town just a bit to my SW. They're close enough that I can hear their thunderstorms from my place. I think it's incredible they can have gusts like that and I have only under 60.

Willamette Valley floods, and snow burying Klamath County nearly that entire December. Crater Lake NP breaks a 1940's record monthly snowfall.

I remember absolutely nothing about weather in 2015 or the 15-16 winter.

It was one of those years like 96-97 and 97-98 where pretty much nothing of interest happened in the south valley.

Other than the December snowfall, and the ultra rare squall on Jan 19, I think not much exciting happened rest of the winter down here. Late winter was pretty mild.

Did have the snowiest Dec since the 1990's.
