Over the last 15 years we’ve had measurable snowfall 4 times in November. 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2017. 14 and 17 were only 1/2” accumulations though so haven’t had a legit November snowfall in 10 years. Really the best time for snow is mid December through mid February.

You must have had more than 1/2" in 2010.  In truth November has been a much better snow producer in modern times than it used to be.  I even had an ok snow here in 2014.  Winters used to be much more mid and back loaded.

Death To Warm Anomalies!

Winter 2023-24 stats

Total Snowfall = 1.0"

Day with 1" or more snow depth = 1

Total Hail = 0.0

Total Ice = 0.2

Coldest Low = 13

Lows 32 or below = 45

Highs 32 or below = 3

Lows 20 or below = 3

Highs 40 or below = 9

We had about 3/4" of snow in Silverton with the November 2010 blast. I was living down in town at the time. It was fairly similar to the November 1993 blast. A little snow, a couple days of 30/16 type weather.

The February event gave us about an 1" of snow. Both events were really good up here, I was driving up to Silver Falls daily to get my snow fix.

It sucks that I lost all of my pics from around that time since my one and only first generation android phone bit the dust, and I was not able to revive it with all my pics and it was the time before the cloud storage. But if I remember correctly I had at least a foot of snow if not more in 2010.

As I've mentioned before on here.  If you are buying a station mainly for wind I recommend a wired station.  That way you get instantaneous updates on the windspeed.  With wireless it usually samples every two or three seconds.  Watching the gusts is more fun with the constant update.

Can confirm. I have the wireless and the 2-3 second delay during wind events can make you feel like you're missing the biggest gusts.

38 so far this morning, we ended up picking up .68” yesterday, .03” since midnight, 6.17” for the month.

Weather station question....anybody use the weatherflow tempest station? A buddy of mine is looking to get a station and was looking at that one.  He lives in Skagit County, near Cook Rd west of I-5 so he gets good winds at his location.  He wants to be able to see how high the winds actually get at his house (and just geek out on the weather stats in general).

You have 6" on the month already? That's insane! I had no idea Bellingham had been that wet so far. I mean, the rain shadow has definitely been more apparent down here, but I'm still below 3".

Yeah, I knew the South Sound had been wetter, but Bellingham usually isn't too different from here.

I would love another Christmas Eve/Day snow. The one we had a couple years ago was magical.

The black and white pictures from our last one are pretty cool too. Hopefully we can break the 30-year streak for the poor folks here who think it's impossible to have a White Christmas this far south.

Pretty sure there were color photos in 1990. Or whatever year you are claiming your last White Christmas was.

Icy out there this morning. With a mix of showers and clear breaks overnight, a lot of the moisture froze up pretty good. 32.6F for the low.

Jealous. Seems tough to get ice in my part of town for some reason. I'm at the NW base of Galbraith/Lookout Mt., maybe downsloping is to blame? I know KBLI stayed in the 40's last night but I haven't seen much frost or ice in my neck of the woods yet this Fall, even during that cold spell 😕

Agree 100%

My machine in Troutdale was wired and I held the council in my hand enjoying each gust the gorge had to offer!! I was so disappointed when I switched to the wireless but her in Federal Way I’m sheltered so not a huge deal now.

We are pretty sheltered here and tend to decouple really quickly on clear nights.  We get a lot of winter nights that see temperatures bounce around freezing when we are in a showery airmass.  End result is a lot of black ice.

Can you recommend a specific one? My initial searches for a wired one are yielding poor results. I dont think it believes me and wants to keep showing wireless ones, or just 200 dollar replacement ones for the 800 dollar Davis package i dont have.

Newspaper photos...didn't clarify that. I'm sure some older folks around town might have a few color photos of it from their Polaroids.

Given ENSO and (likely) another positive north annular mode this winter, I suspect this drought dome over the SW US will only worsen over the next year or so. And probably expand.

Some real ugly precip tendencies following Niña years with +NAM, especially when drought is already present. 😬

^^ Not suggesting it reaches PNW this winter. But I’d watch next summer if we can’t break this +NAM/wide HC/warm tropical strat regime. Looks pretty hopeless right now.

The western half of WA has really dodged a bullet so far.  That includes the all important Cascades.  How does the +NAM play into it?

+NAM associated with broad z-cells/poleward jets and increased static stability in deep tropics. Statistically favors large warm season 4CH.

Yuck.  On the other hand cold ENSO can favor a strong Pacific High.  Might be a battle between the two.  I think the biggest reason we have had such hot summers this century so far is the simple fact the Pacific High hasn't been as dominant as it was much of the time in the past.  When it is more dominant it keeps the 4CH in check.

Our good window for big snow events really seems to be about January 1-March 25th. It seems like once we get into February/March it doesn't take much for snow here, whereas earlier in the winter, especially before say January 10th, it takes a really significant trough/airmass to deliver meaningful snowfall.

In a decade up here we have had about 5 4"+ snow events before January 10th. Whereas we have had in the range of 15-20 such events later on.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Looks like a new streak of sub 50 highs has begun after the 52 and 61 highs a couple of days ago.  48 yesterday and now 47 with heavy cloud cover back in place today.

What are your averages at now?  By Nov 20 my local daily averages are down to 45 / 35.  50F is a pretty warm day by this point in the season

Not for at least a couple days and not much in the last 2 weeks.   I keep checking for a strong cold signal but it has not been there from what I have seen.    Not yet anyways.

As Tiger said, nothing really. A dusting, that was it. I had more snow on April 1st, 2020.
