Latest ECMWF weeklies from last night reinforce the idea of a ridgy start to December, and maintain a better looking pattern for the second half of the month and into the new year. Good timing for Christmas still.

Edit: Woops, just saw Brian #2 posted them already. Oh well. Double dosage.

It's been consistent also.  This is the third consecutive update (at least) to show it getting cold late in December.  Being an ensemble the anomalies still look a bit muted, but it has the right look.

Based on polar field strength, SC25 should be similar to SC24 in amplitude. Assuming that method works.

That's what I was thinking too, but maybe that will only apply to the maximum.

Check out PEET BROS .... Their units are all hard wired... had one for over 15 years before it bit the dust.               https://www.peetbros.com/shop/

That's what I have. It's called an Ultimeter 800.  Still works after almost 20 years.

Compressional heating and conference calls are what Brookings is all about.

They actually get multiple compressings when everything sets up right.  Yuck.

Hopefully if we do get a period of ridging in late Nov / early Dec it will set up right to give us a nice foggy inversion.  I always like seeing one of those during the cold season.

I was in Sunriver around Christmas 2016. It was a winter wonderland and got down to -7ºF one morning. Probably the best timed vacation I've ever been on. I'm surprised the ground was bare in Klamath on 12/31.

During the Jan 4-7 cold/snow event Sunriver had an 8/2 day followed by 17/-13. The -13 wasn't too impressive compared to other areas in Deschutes and Klamath county but the high of 8 was.

I forgot you've been posting for that long.

Yea, I had the base model 100... very basic but worked very well and lasted 18 years if I remember right. First the LCD screen started to fade, then lost the wind direction, then wind speed. I think I paid about $175.00 for the unit way back then if I remember right. Pretty good unit for the money.

It’s funny you claim to hate the dampness of winter here then want the dampest, dankest weather possible when we get ridging. It’s ok though since I like foggy inversions too. They are tied with east winds.

Yup. Every Nino region appears to be tanking. If I'm understanding this correctly there is a 2-3 week lag time for that to affect the global pattern and the sensible weather over the West and North Pacific. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that.
