November 2020 Weather Observations for the PNW

Partly cloudy and 43 currently with a NE breeze blowing. Had a low of 37.
Anyway let’s see if we can get this negative again by the second week of December...And not the second week of March.

Looks like a big temperature spread this morning.  Here a little south of Bonney Lake it is 31 degrees, frosty and partly cloudy.  It should be a nice sunrise soon.

Yeah... you can tell where the east wind is blowing.  North Bend is the warm spot at 47.

The 12z GFS looks like a really boring pattern. I agree with Jim that I would rather get a solid ridge to get an inversion going rather than those weak/warm systems it shows after the midweek trough.

I agree, those are the worst.

Would think I was looking at a Nino pattern if I didn't know any better. Hopefully it changes. Even if it doesn't it probably won't last long.

I hope the Canadian ensembles are handling the pattern correctly. Big ridge, strong inversion, very strong Columbia Basin cold pool as Yakima doesn't even reach 32 for over a week. Block is primed for retrogression.

I hope so.  I'm a bit disappointed the other models keep things more progressive.  Step number one is to shut down the Pacific.

Low of 37 this morning. First morning into the 30s in 10 days.

Managed to drop to 31 here.  I didn't see that one coming.  East winds came close enough to dry out the air without it getting breezy here.  Besides that it stayed more clear than it appeared it would.

It's par for the course in the early going in a Nina season.  I feel pretty good with us having those two early cold snaps under our belts.

Usually ninas aren’t too great in the beginning anyways. This has been a pretty good November for a first year nina.

I’m hoping to get more freezes soon. Still have just one so far. Some years we have to wait until early or mid December so it’s not unprecedented but still usually have had a few by now.

I need to look back at the ancient archives and see what the tail end of November/first half of December 1949 looked. I’m still on board for a late December 1949-first part of February 1950! It’s going to happen! C’MON!!

Similar thing happened here last night. The east wind kicked up around Troutdale. In this area there was no wind, but its influence was just enough to dry out the air and erode the fog layer, allowing us to drop below freezing.

Now there are clouds moving in to keep things chilly since the fog is gone, so perfect timing.

Yeah I would take a climate like Eugene’s that has more extremes both ways over yours probably lol. No offense since it looks like you are in a beautiful location. Being so close to the water just would moderate things too much for me though.

I’ve been wanting to move somewhere a bit farther from the sound as well. It’s beautiful but for a fan of extremes it’s not the best spot to be. Even just 3 miles down the road...this morning it was 3 degrees cooler. Many mornings it’ll be below freezing on the south side of town but in the mid to upper 30s here. It’s nice during the summer time but during the winter time it’s definitely harder to get accumulating snow and we get 25ish freezes a year on average which isn’t much compared to most of western WA/OR.
