At my house I had a slushy inch almost every weekend in December that year but would melt almost immediately before the backdoor slow as a snail cold air would filter in...Was so maddening! Backdoor action is no good for most of Western Wa.
Edit: Okay I looked back at my pics and the snowfall we had on the 23rd was enough to keep some on the ground for Christmas morning 2016. However Mr Snowman had almost bent all the way over before the slow bleed of cold air arrived. I complained a lot that winter but at the end of the day it was fun to track so much every week and it did snow...Just not the N/S stuff that does so much better up around my area.

You didn’t have to go Much farther north to get to the really good stuff.  BC was dumped on pretty regularly that winter. Vancouver had “salt wars” as there was none to be found. We had almost 60” here that season

I think Whatcom County did well that winter too. Everywhere in Oregon and most of SW Washington had a pretty solid winter too. I think there was just a narrow area from about Olympia to Skagit County where the ingredients just didn't quite come together. I know SEA-TAC had 11.2" for the winter though, which is fairly decent.

In today’s climate it’s tough to complain about ~12” at sea-tac.

We had 8” of snow in 16-17. Snow didn’t stick around long in each situation but still was one of the better winters we’ve had here. Had 5” of snow during the Super Bowl and 3” of snow in December.

While the goods are coming later on this winter, it still is annoying to see constant warm anomalies all over the northern hemisphere. It's not universal, for instance eastern Siberia, northern Europe, northeastern Canada and the entirety of Greenland are below average, but the rest roughly 75% of the high latitude northern hemisphere are all above average, particularly western Canada and the Bering Strait. Hopefully as the PV enters a less oppressive regime in mid-December, cold air will flow equatorward more easily.

Really nice to see. The fact is we are so far ahead with mountain snow right now that if we return to an active pattern by mid-December we will be in fine shape. The storm the middle of this week will drop probably about a foot at the ski resorts. They should have more than enough snow to open and stay open.

Yeah. Northern OR Cascades forecast does not show snow levels going above 5000' while it's not dry.

Probably going to get pretty hardpacky at the resorts, but I don't see much chance for high snow levels / mountain rain anytime soon.

About 0.30" of rain overnight. Up to 8.61" on the month. We will probably end the month slightly below average. But likely at least 90% of average. Not bad.

Don't you love climate change? The climate is......(gasp) changing! We are in for the long haul! Doesn't mean there won't be little blips similar to late October or what we had last year.etc which is what's left of the balancing act.

You and Front Ranger remember this. I do not. It’s the only snow I don’t remember for some reason and it really bothers me!

It melted by daylight pretty fast. I remember being disappointed by it. Couldn't play in it or nothing! Coming from the mountains of California I thought the school closure was dumb. A 2 hour late start would've been wise.  2000-2001 was an awful nightmare except the brief cold that November. A week of nights in the mid 20s.

I don’t remember much of any snow...I think we cut some trees down at the Golf Course I worked at during some frost delays that month.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Greenland is always below average these days. Usually means bad news for middle latitude snow lovers.

It was a chilly one for sure! There was a also a pretty nice snow event in December which nailed areas west of I-5. Salem/Keizer got a decent 2-5" snowfall, out in Silverton we just had a dusting.
