Maybe someday Central OR. will get some real radar.

That'll be nice! Bend and Redmond can have far different weather despite being so close together!

Which airport do you think is busier? Redmond or Aurora? Aurora a few years ago had gain a full time ATC crew due to how busy they have gotten without having one. Does Redmond have one?

Redmond is a pretty busy airport if you factor in local flights as well.  I actually do work for a gentleman that flies from the Madras airport to Redmond airport when the roads are sketchy.

Was just about to post that! Could be a catalyst to introduce a favorable blocking pattern.

But this would be a Siberian SSW event and as far as I understand, we want a North Atlantic one to favour GOA blocking. I could be mistaken though. Anybody with more insight want to share?

It’s the other way around. North Atlantic ones tend to better for the East. Siberia/Eurasia warmings tend to favor the West.

Though the reason for that goes beyond the location/structure of the warming. And there are exceptions to both.

Speaking of which, the 00z GFS is a bit more assertive with the vortex vs 18z and especially 06z/12z. So.. 😒

Try again on 11/20/21?

Many say 2021 will be better, I say not so fast.

00z GEM Day 7-10 GIF

Looks ideal for retrogression. The next Aleutian trough is much further west and that massive block is progressively shifting west. You can also see it is pivoting. Heights are rapidly rising near ~150 to 160 W as the block quickly builds offshore. I have a hard time believing we'll see a block that extraordinary in size, but who knows.

Yeah it’s trying there. Retrogression is certainly a quicker route to cold out there vs a complete reset. The latter probably wouldn’t have time to do anything before the next MJO/GWO orbit towards New Years.
