Briefly beautiful sunrise this morning. Shot from the car. You can even see the inverted shadow of Mt. Hood.

00z EPS Day 7 850mb Temp Anomaly

Trending colder (Past 4 runs)

EPS 4 runs Day 7.gif

6z NAM (Past 3 runs) We continue to see the trend last nights 00z GFS/GEFS, EURO/EPS all showed. The trough is pinching off even sooner with ridge merger occurring more quickly and cut-off low. The block is also trending much stronger.

6z NAM HR 69 3 runs.gif

A decent step in the right direction. I would like to see that Kona low decouple a bit more and move more SW, back building that ridge a bit stronger nearing 150W.

It is however only November 2nd

Yeah really would help pump it up/amplification. Should this trend continue through tonight's 00z runs I expect some fun model riding by then. I had been saying a few days I was real eager to see the Monday 00z model runs. We shall see.

Same thing was happening yesterday up on orcas island. Was much warmer in the morning and throughout the day at the top of the mountain. Even this morning it’s 38 down at sea level and 50 up at the top.

00Z ECMWF showed 3 days with rain up here (Tues - Thursday) and then 6 dry days in a row (Friday - Wednesday).

Its looks wetter in Oregon and much wetter in CA during the Friday - Wednesday period... so maybe nature will start to balance out the anomalies this fall.

Really looking forward to getting into the active weather season. Haven’t had much in the way of interesting weather so far this fall. No +45mph gusts...no freezes only 1 heavy rain event in late September. Most interesting thing so far was the thunderstorm on 10/13 probably.

Ah, I see it now. Weird, the 5 min obs show EUG only getting to 33F. The downtown station where the "Eugene Area" records on ACIS are kept might have gotten there. I wish that station were public.

Sometimes they bounce around between the 5 min obs. It can be confusing sometimes, I make mistakes looking at it occasionally, which Jesse then claims I do on purpose. LOL

The 5 min obs weren't reporting much on the NOAA site either so it was tough to find.

Yeah we got up to about 40mph that time. Think that knocked out power to a lot of people because the leaves were still on the trees. Was a pretty typical wind event for western WA not too exciting.

A little atypical given how early it was in the season, the majority of trees still being leaved only exacerbated the situation around the area/s.

Probably the biggest thing that’s happened this fall if you talk in terms of meteorological fall would be the Labor Day windstorm. That was a highly anomalous event.

No I’m talking about Labor Day 2020. We had a crazy East wind event. So far that’s been the craziest thing this fall.
