august 2014 observations and discussions

This higly anticipated heat wave looks like it may go on to produce a whopping ZERO 90s.

Would have been a true heat wave with multiple days in the 90's hadn't it been for all the convective activity. We've just been unlucky with the heat this year (or lucky if you want to look at it that way). Though August will most likely finish with a positive departure in terms of temperatures.

Would've, could've, should've... Just wasn't in the cards I guess

Only 81° imby today.

How many outflow boundaries can you count? I see 5.

Was just looking at that myself. Earlier I was fortunate enough to get one while baking on a deck I was working on, and then received only a few drops of rain. Interesting weather day, considering how muggy and warm it started, and also what has pretty much blown right by/over me or dried up right before it got to me.

On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.

Remember the major severe weather outbreak back on November 17, 2013 that erupted tornadoes in Illinois last year???  According to the LRC, 288 days later and in the final cycle of this year's pattern, it is showing up one last time this holiday weekend.  Is it a coincidence???  I think not...check out the similarities in these maps.  We will begin to see the new pattern setting up late in September, but for now its the same pattern.

I really hope this weekend isn't a washout! Month is running about -0.6° from normal here locally. Really pleasant out this evening, but I know the dewpoints will be rising soon.
