Strange lull in winds at PDX, but looks to be picking back up. Gradient holding strong.

Wind woke me up again. Some gusts sounds like a jet roaring over the house. I love this stuff! I was out in my driveway around 1-1:30 AM watching my trees and it's a bit eerie when I can hear the wind building 1/4 mile away to my east and then the roar gets louder and louder. Fun stuff.

Good runs coming this morning!

H-triple R says strongest widespread winds are still to come. Regardless they’ve kicked back up here.

That last gust just now 4:57 AM was incredible! Easily 50-55mph. I haven't heard anything like that since the big 2014 Veteran's Day east wind storm. WOW. I wasn't expecting that.

Every once in a while these huge gusts surface here in the west hills— something fell on the roof just a few moments ago.

31 here in the swamp Tim.  The easterly flow must be compressing and giving you some heating.

I have stared at that animation you posted and I can't find any retrogression.  Maybe I just need to stare harder?  Looks like a situation where all the cold air dumps into the upper midwest and east as is usually the case.

55 on Squak Mountain in Issaquah.

Lots of low 50s across the east side of the Seattle area... mixed in with some low 30s in wind protected places.

Does not seem to be a whole lot of fog out there. Yeah, some stations are reporting it, but they are distinctly a minority. Just does not seem to be a cold and foggy “fake cold” inversion situation, at least not yet.

Crystal clear at my location, we've been bouncing around 30-31.  Some very white roofs this morning (and yesterday morning for that matter).

Haven't managed a freeze up here for a long time (only had one in November). There's been just enough wind here this morning to keep us bouncing between 33F and 36F. Although it is quite frosty outside.

It’s definitely been overperforming on the radiational cooling here. Forecasts have been calling for lows in the mid-30’s. I’ve beat that by about 7˚F this morning. Not a complete surprise, as inversions are tough to model and my area for some reason tends to be something of a cold spot.

It's called clown range for a reason.

First visible satellite pics show very little in the way of low clouds or fog... and the models have been showing weak systems cutting through the ridge on Thursday and Saturday which will probably keep things a little better mixed as opposed to just a solid ridge parked on top of us.

Yeah... I doubt we are settling into a cold inversion situation at all with systems like this cutting through the ridge and increasing wind in all areas.

If I remember correctly you are in the Cordata area, and yeah that area gets cold.  In the "pre-Covid" era I would play soccer at WCC on the weekends in the fall/winter and it usually feels colder than at my house.  I play keeper, so I don't get to run around as much, those north wind events up there are BRUTAL!

I am. The general character of the land here is flat and open. My theory is that the open part facilitates nighttime radiational cooling and the flat part means the resulting cold layer tends to pool instead of readily draining down a slope. So even though it's more of a low plateau than a valley where cold air would more obviously pool, cold air still tends to pool here. And yes, we are in Fraser Outflow Central when the winds blow.
