jakeinthevalley
Got my first ticket a couple years back just outside Susanville, CA for 69 in a 55 that had just reduced from 65. I told the CHP guy that he was the first to get me in 34 years of driving. I paid the $279 fine rather than going back to contest the ticket in Lassen Cty. I considered it, but it would have been more in gas than whatever reduction it would have been. (I live in West Salem)

Don’t like talking about this, but here it goes. Was pouring rain in the middle of summer, and this dude is driving half the speed limit in the *passing lane*. I started tailgating him a bit, and he responds by break checking me. I try to pass him on the shoulder, but he blocks me intentionally..at this point we’re both doing ~ 80mph and drifting towards the concrete median..obviously testosterone had taken over. I was seeing red and, without thinking, basically pick maneuvered him, which sent him spiraling into highway traffic at a high rate of speed. My blood went cold as I saw his car get hit and spiral back into the concrete median and basically implode. The gravity of the situation hit me like a brick wall. Thought I had killed someone. I can’t really explain the feeling. But I can feel it as real today as I did then. By some miracle, he was able to walk away. Thank god. I don’t know how. But I still break into a sweat thinking about it. Right now just typing about it. Basically just try to suppress the memory. My driving habits and value system changed completely after that, though. Really try it take it easy these days. He was who you caught Covid from for the fourth time, right? 1 Quote My preferences can beat up your preferences’ dad. Worst one was 135 In a 50 zone but I actually talked my way out of it. I was on Chinook pass and there are some nice stretches of road with no side roads or houses. I literally told the cop I love to drive fast but have always been respectful to where I do it and he let me go. That's impressive. I actually got out of my eluding incident. As soon as he caught me I pulled over it was "yes sir no sir thank you sir." I was certain I going to get a tour of the Athens-Clarke County jail. In addition to driving like an idiot, I didn't have the registration or proof of insurance. He chewed my a** for a solid 3-4 minutes then told me to get the hell out of there. I got my Datsun 280z up around 150 twice though fortunately there were no boys (or girls) in blue to verify it. It was a wild sensation, as it passed 120 it actually sucked down to the road. On the other hand I took an '86 16v VW Scirocco out for a test drive in Oregon and when it hit 85-90 the front end lifted. Never been so scared in my life, I'm turning the wheel and the car was just barely responding. Once I got it slowed and back in control I went straight back to the dealer and gave them the keys back. 1 1 Quote Britton Rd Bellingham Weather Station: https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KWABELLI103?cm_ven=localwx_pwsdash

Cloudy but dry for the eluding, definitely sunny for the 2 runs to 150 (2nd was actually a hot day and blew a radiator hose) and it was cloudy for the Scirocco incident, the travel lanes were dry but I think along the centerline and foglines it was damp. On another note, be sure to check your furnace boys and girls, I've had a street full of fire department apparatus over a carbon monoxide scare at a neighbor's house. They have been here for a good hour, so I'm guessing its legit. I went outside when I saw all the lights and could hear the neighbor talking in a normal tone so I assume their alarm went off and they got out in time. 1 Quote Britton Rd Bellingham Weather Station: https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KWABELLI103?cm_ven=localwx_pwsdash
