Yup, the Willamette Valley is still yet to see anything favorable on the models. Haven't even had much clown range eye candy. Just...nothing.

Looks like we got down to 36F. Was still 40F when I went to bed. Up to 38F now so at least it feels more like the cold weather season.

Yesterday was rather impressive down here too.  We didn't go from 60 to snow, but 60 to the low 40s.  I was really hoping the front would come through midday, always more dramatic to watch the temperatures fall even during the heat of the day.  Oh well, even non-weather geeks were talking about how warm it was followed by the very gusty winds and heavy rain, plus it was very well forecast.

Temp went up overnight... even out here.    I was up at 2 a.m. and it was 38 and I checked the observations and most places were in the upper 30s.   I could hear water coming off the roof as the snow was melting.    Very disappointing.

I didn't think it would clear out and freeze hard... but it usually does not warm up here overnight after a snowfall unless its a transition event.

I've still got it!

Nah it sounds and looks like I was spot on.

My before and after pics...Would have been more dramatic if we didn’t have the big meltdown overnight. And also the roads are still not perfect around here yet. But 3/4 of a mile away at the lower elevation at work it’s just water over the roadway.

Not looking likely, maybe a brief window on Thursday.

Looks like 28 will stand as their low for 2020, so a new high water mark.

They have also hit 60+ every month of this year, which isn't unprecedented but is always kind of a mark of lameness. Especially coupled with such a mild annual low.

Also on track for their 3rd warmest December on record through today (1950, 1939). Might drop a few spots in the rankings but it's fair to say this month will go down as a torch.

The 12z GFS was pure unadulterated garbage. Kind of expected. The 18z yesterday was kind of interesting, but had absolutely no ensemble support.

I was going to hold off until the EURO weeklies on January 7th, but I can certainly move the process up a bit if it is in the best interests of our forum community.

Can't say I'm feeling too good about it. There continues to be a lack of anything remotely impressive across the northern hemisphere. Even Alaska looks mild for the foreseeable future, unlike last year which at least delivered up there in spite of its ineptitude.

Eh, the pattern that year really wasn't close to this.

November/December 2000 was extremely blocky and cold across the continent. One of the few genuinely impressive stretches this century for the country (although it was technically still the 20th century). Check out Bartlesville's records from that stretch!

Winter '20-21 felt over before it began in The Willamette Valley. Early cold feels like a bad omen to me.

I do like the support this group offers to people that get down in the dumps about yet another blah winter. The encouraging comments about it still being early and how things can change quickly are all awesome but there is something to be said for adjusting to the fact that this winter is not going to deliver. I have stopped thinking optimistically and started thinking realistically and I feel a lot better. It's not a distraction now at least.

Onward!
