Death, taxes, and the end of the GFS run looking like it's about to go places.

39F with sunshine headed to Tangent to get the kiddos. Beautiful day with the sun out and a teensy inversion fog. Quite beautiful. Sadly the kiddos won’t be able to use their big Christmas gift until Monday if it can be dry that day.

Should look awesome with the Christmas lights still up.  Last year only got on measly 1 or 2 inches while the lights were up.  Was really hoping to have some good Christmas pictures but early January works too......probably leave them up until mid-month.

Yeah, and the encouraging thing about these setups is that they are a scenario where the models tend to underestimate the depth and persistence of a low level cold pool. Rather than CAA based setups where the opposite is true.

Looks like a close shave with mid level warm advection, but it’s at least something to look at.

I've noticed lately the 384hr snow maps are dead on. Pretty remarkable.

That's the total for the whole run.  Surprised to see so much lowland snow but the 18z is far from terrible.

It's well worth noting the 12z EPS control was really good in early Jan once again.  That's three consecutive runs.

GOA block definitely trying to form at the end of the run. I can see signs of a ridge bridge if that -NAO remains in tact after the SSW. Good times ahead in my opinion.

Looks like a very bullish signal on the ECMWF weeklies for the last half of January to be cold in the NW.  The control begins the cold before the 10h.

I don’t know if the control run is ever worth noting.

It actually picks up on changes before other models rather frequently.  Sometimes it overdoes intensity though.

I saw that too, but it has been pointed out that the weeklies had been showing that for earlier in January, and keeps delaying it.  But I love the pattern for the next few weeks for my area.  Getting snow tomorrow afternoon and evening and probably lots more in the next few weeks.  Hopefully the west side people can get their fair share too at some point.

Looks like the gorge should get some solid snow with the system coming in tomorrow.  Should help out with that low level cold pool. Hopefully there is a bit less WAA with that mid week overrunning event, seems close enough to at least watch.
