Yup. Here’s January 1969. The current pattern will probably evolve into something similar-ish to this once the jet retracts next month.

The long time locals have talked about the winter of 1968-1969 here with great respect. Jan 1969 really kicked it off. This was taken in town (banana belt) that winter.

New rule: From now on “GFS” is to be pronounced “goofus” when discussing that model’s long-range predictions, particularly ones involving cold and snow.

That’s a Phil trademark, only he is allowed to use it...Unless you want to pay him a usage fee which includes moving to stampede pass and in that process using the U-Haul to get into a few road rage incidents along the way...In 110MPH winds.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Josh is currently on a conference call in Burns discussing the issue with his lawyer and a foothills yuppie.

40 at TTD and 32 at PDX.

East winds are kind of an asspain if they are in the midst of an eh pattern like this. I'll take the pretty frost and fog.

I was glad to see them die off overnight here.

Depending on how the wind shakes out, tomorrow morning could be PDX’s last shot to fall below 28 before the year is over.

Fairly weak gradient again tomorrow. They'll probably mix out again today but then do the 32 thing again tomorrow. Not seeing much chance of 27.

I've had similar thoughts. Given the -ENSO/+QBO state combined with a -NAO and SSW, it's hard not to imagine things not working out for the PNW.

Fwiw, the GEFS extended mean has been consistently showing a similar 500mb pattern by mid-late January.

I still have high hopes for everything working out in our favor at the same time I know this guy is lurking near

Call me a skeptic. but I have a real hard time imagining one of the great patterns of the 20th Century is going to inexplicably emerge from this shitscape.

If we get a 69 2 years after 2-25-19 then that would be pretty nice.

Then you would be due for about 20 straight snow less winters.
