A chilly 31 in Lester tonight.  Not bad for 1500 feet on the West Slopes of the Cascades.  The cold seepage from Central WA has been helping the last few days.

Probably going to end up slightly stronger than the 2011-12 Nina. Looks like the latest weekly 3.4 region departure was -1.2C. OND ONI probably ends up around -1.2 to -1.4.

I've always thought that nice little early January 2011 cold snap always gets lost in the massive model failure that followed.

A 35/22 day at PDX ain’t nothing to be brushed off, especially these days.

The ECMWF surface data spits out lows of 27 for SEA and 24 for McChord on the 23rd.  Pretty nippy.

Burns put up a 14/-23 on New Year's Day after putting up a 6/-25 on NYE. That was a pretty good winter out on the high desert. A 16/-18 at the end of February too.

I guess 28 is the # to beat before the end of the month for PDX.

Finally!  The EPS shows the EPO and PNA both going negative late month.  nothing too crazy yet, but it's going the right way.
