That little hemlock looks pretty unhealthy. I keep wondering if just the top will die or if the whole tree will eventually go. A saga I have been following in your pics for a year or so now!

It is getting worse.  I hope it lasts a while since It’s in a good spot for blocking the view of our crazy neighbors.

The system leading up to New Years looks to bring a lot of needed precip to southern Oregon and northern California. Tons of snow in the Trinity Alps and Sierras. Cascades don't do too bad either.

Models keep toying with the idea of some sort of overrunning set up for the Portland area too.

Had 11 for a low this morning. Just crunchy grass and a minor frost. Doesn't look like I'm getting a White Christmas this year. But I will probably end 2020 with a decent ground pack.

Filmed in November of 2010. A historical record of the era when winters were front-loaded.

If I had moved here just 7-10 days earlier than I did, would have experienced one of the greatest November snow/cold blasts in southern Oregon. Back in Hillsboro I'm sure a handful of other years provided bigger ones.

And as long as we're posting winter crash videos from 2010, then there's this classic from Portland.

That November storm was great.  It ended up over performing, North Seattle had a good 3 inches with blowing snow and highs in the upper 20s that night.

It was kind of a wetter snow in Hillsboro but 2-3" fell that night, and some of it melted before the arctic air came in.

There was thick black ice on roads and it closed schools for the day.

The ECMWF meteograms show a low of 26 for SEA next Tuesday.  At least we will be getting chilly interludes until the good stuff comes.

I'm hoping for a re-run of this, this March. Should be good!

I have no idea why people are so convinced nothing will happen until March.  Nothing to support that really.  FWIW there are some Marches that have had the real deal anyway.

West coasters need to learn to drive in the snow!

When it's a sheet of ice there isn't much anyone can do.  It comes down to road maintenance.

Actually there is: apply grit and/or deicer. My first Seattle winter, I was shocked at how little the streets got treated when it snowed. Last winter was my first in Whatcom County, and I was impressed at how much more grit and deicer they spread here. It makes a huge difference. (Still not as good as the Midwest or the Rockies, but at least our arterial streets get treated. If you can make it to the nearest arterial, you have it made.)

Of course, we tend to get more lowland snow events up this way, which makes the greater investment in equipment and materials stockpiling easier to justify.

It's called clown range for a reason.

Next summer we need to rent a hall and all get together and drink some beer. I'll pay 1/2 the cost of booze and food and hall. Dead serious.  Hopefully we can celebrate the a** kicking against covid!!

I’ll bring homemade ensembles and dip!
