Sure would have been nice if we could have noticed any appreciable difference to the pattern down this way. SSWs don't make a lick of difference in terms of meaningful cold and snow this far south. Feb 2019 was luck.

This is absolutely true.  Milepost 256 has long been known as the edge of the earth for stratospheric goodies.

Hmm..I’m not sure I agree with that. The effects can vary wildly but they’re not latitude dependent as far as I know.

Any way to figure out if there is a figure that out? I don't seem to notice much difference here. But it's way different up north.

If regionally is the 600 miles from Vancouver to Medford basically every pattern leaves a lot to be desired, ssw or not.

So Dec 1990 left a lot to be desired?

Had some more wet snow falling right after sunset, now another break.

37 and nothing on grass or vehicles. The wind did stop quite abruptly I noticed last hour or so.
KLMT peaked a 49mph gust around 4pm, all the way to a light ocean breeze less than 2 hours later.

Even if there is an arctic blast, some people here will have meltdowns when the models all show it ending. As if somehow an arctic blast ever went on indefinitely.

The longest one I've ever seen was Dec 2013. They tend to be short and sweet in the PNW. Having a week or more straight of below zero lows at my place has happened only once in the 2010's.

You might be thinking of Snowmizer and his new amazing car...Unless you are talking about a 2014 Subaru Outback or a 2020 GMC Sierra.

Yeah, living in K-Falls your standards for what is “arctic” are going to be quite a bit colder than mine! And I’m fine with that. I’m actually glad the melt is on here. The streets are finally ice-free enough to make riding a bicycle non-hazardous again. I like getting a few tastes of snow and cold each winter but I’m also glad it’s the exception and not the rule. It’s why I live where I do.

My coldest was 7 degrees in Hillsboro (Dec 2009). A year later I learned that our annual avg minimum was like -1 here or 0. ;)

Traeger or Green Mountain?

Traeger. I do have a green mountain up at the cabin. They both are equally good. The most important factor with the prime rib is you have to get a prime grade roast. The choice grade is good but the prime is next level.

I’ve been having fits with our Green Mountain heating really unevenly.  Tried everything but the problem persists.

That’s one thing our climate has right. Nice, even warming!

That is One of the issues I had with my traeger while cooking when the outside temp is under about 50 degrees. I bought a welders blanket to help keep it insulated.

Nah. Some seasons/months have been warming faster than others. I find it kind of incredible there are any months that will be cooler at PDX for 1991-2020 compared to the previous baseline but I believe there are a few.

The one thing they won't do is duplicate the smoke flaver of a stick burning smoker.  I added a smoke tube for additional smoke and it helped big time.

Definitely is more of a cold season issue. We did a couple big tri tips today and I was about ready roll the thing into the creek.  Which I don’t think would have helped the situation.

Amazing to think that creek may be frozen over in a month...

Definitely wouldn't help the temperature fluctuation.
