Definitely is more of a cold season issue. We did a couple big tri tips today and I was about ready roll the thing into the creek.  Which I don’t think would have helped the situation.

Amazing to think that creek may be frozen over in a month...

I take it you tried the welders blanket?

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

At least the GFS keeps finding way to keep giving us the mini cold snaps into early January.  This runs shows sub 522 thicknesses over SEA on about Jan 6.  Most runs are showing a snow threat in that time frame.

In the shorter term the Sunday night through Tuesday time frame looks pretty nippy.

So Dec 1990 left a lot to be desired?

Dec 1990 was amazing.  It seems amazing to me that many on here are too young to really remember it.  I was living in one of the best places for snow with that event also.  The combination of cold and snow was one of the most memorable events I've seen here.  Coming so soon after Feb 1989 made it all the more insane.

Me and my dad were out plowing snow that night the arctic front came through.  To this day that's the coldest and most brutal winter night I've experienced in western Washington.

And that was right after some major flooding and when part of the 520 bridge sunk.

Yup...that one really sticks in my mind.  It took me an hour to drive 4 blocks on my way home from work.  Luckily I was able to park the car in a lot and take the 7 mile walk home.  A few days later I went to pick up the car and there were abandoned cars littered alongside the road.  I was very thankful I had the sense to park before it got THAT bad.  I have many memories of truly wintry scenes from that event.  It was literally like another world in a lot of ways.

It’s amazing my perspective at that age once we got through December 1990.  Even out at the coast we had multiple-day stretches of highs in the 20’s in 1983, 1985, 1989 and 1990.  All formative years for a growing weather weenie.  Since then there have been four total at KAST... two in December 1998, one each in December 2013 and February 2014.

No doubt that event was telegraphed well in advance.  All of the true warning signs before it.

Indeed.  That period spoiled me.  The memory of those events is part of the reason I get so worked up about the weather now.  At least we have had some pretty solid events in recent years.  Still nothing like those.

November 2010 reminded me of 90. Me and my wife walked 3 miles to our house because of all the trees down. I gave her my jacket and I walked the entire way in a t shirt lol. It was in the low 20's with 30 mph wind.

The 0z ensemble isn't terrible.  A major cluster of members below -4C in the Jan 5 to 8 time frame.  By recent January standards that is really good.

He pops in here to downvote a post of two of mine as himself or his alt account every couple weeks it seems.

I’ve never known him to post much outside of arctic blasts or summer heatwaves, though. Thankfully.

That was a very impressive event.  Certainly the blast of the century so far from an anomalous standpoint.

More light flurries. Still a decent amount of activity, even some convection occurring in the southwestern Oregon coast.

38 degrees so nothing sticking yet.

Nah. Some seasons/months have been warming faster than others. I find it kind of incredible there are any months that will be cooler at PDX for 1991-2020 compared to the previous baseline but I believe there are a few.

The only two are Feb and March I’m pretty sure.

Possibly May.  It seems like that month never changes.  That was at least true when I looked at it a few years back.
