Things are looking interesting for the final third of the month at this point.  The GFS has locked onto a theme of building a ridge right on top of us and then retrograding it.  Last night's EPS had a similar look as well.  The 12z GFS ensemble actually has a pretty good signal for below normal temps around the 23rd or so.  Perhaps winter will really arrive before the month is over.

For whatever reason Silver Falls has no data for January 1950. February 1st had 41” of snow on the ground though. The park had 96” of snow in January 1969, and that is with some missing data for a couple days snow fell.

So 100-110" potentially lol

Our biggest winter was 100.60 in '55-'56. But some of the station's early data had missing info so I'm sure we've had a couple 120+ inch seasons in the late 1800's.

It was foggy and cloudy much of the night here, but cleared out a bit and dropped to 34 around sunrise.

In light of this sickening underperformance, underscored by reports of a cold, frosty morning up north, I have come to the mature and level headed conclusion that my particular location is one of the worst places for cold and snow on the entire planet. Maybe in the universe.

I heard former park ranger Jebediah Greenlaugh Johnson used the weather station for kindling in early January 1950.

I am really liking the looks of this.  If this theme verifies a white New Years may well be in the cards.  Last night the EPS and the control both showed the exact same thing...a block developing over the Western GOA.  I always like when the ensemble mean and control show the same thing in cases like this.  At this point a little appetizer cold snap around the 23rd is really emerging also.  After that a ridge moves in right over thus preserving the low level cold, and then retrogression.  Now it just has to happen.  On another note the GFS has grabbed onto an MJO wave developing in the coming days.  Shows it approaching octant 7 around New Years.  Probably the surest region for a continental cold wave, although I really like 5 also.

I liked not seeing a big ridge over us in the long range with these ensembles.  And yes, did see a phase 7 forecast.  Phase 7 is good for us, and then phase 1 and 2 are also good, if it progresses like that.

Interestingly the ridge briefly nosing in over us eventually provides "food" for the Aleutian / GOA block that wants to set up afterward.

The next snow we get, there is a nice little hangout spot I should get pictures of. Sugarman's Corner just right down the hill on 6th St, it's got decorations and a christmas tree.

They call it a "park" but some here don't think it is. It's a spot that hosts small events and musicians at times. Only takes me 5 minutes to walk to it, right now the steps going down 6th are treacherous. 

It seems like it's easier to navigate around the area while snow is happening, not after the fact.

That's too bad. Were you born with those or did that develop over time?

And those aren't even exclusive to epilepsy, I used to know someone that had a type of sleep deprivation cause them and they happened only while trying to fall asleep.
