It’ll prob stand with that amount as I don’t see the New Years storm speeding up.  Not an overwhelming amount of SN yesterday but it’s finally great to wake up and see light and bright landscape.

Do you know the record lowest season total in Topeka?

Yep, just a few years back...3.1" in 2011-2012. Records go back to 1887.

Interestingly, it was stuck between four relatively snowy winters (in order: 40.7, 38.6, 3.1, 29.6, 27.4)

Ah, yeah I know that was a terrible year in Lincoln too. A big dog 11" storm in February saved it from being by far the lowest snowfall season there.

If I remember correctly that was strong but small cutoff low that lead to that big snowstorm for Nebraska?

It sticks my mind because at the same time I was in a string 35-40* highs with almost no snow on the ground in northern Minnesota banging my head against the wall.

A quick seasonal total snow fall update Grand Rapids 6.9” Muskegon 11.8” Lansing 9.6” All of those location are well below average in total snow fall for this date. One more hint on how mild this winter season has been so far the coldest it has officially gotten here at Grand Rapids so far this season in 15. This winter season will end up being tied with 1924 with being the 7th latest date for that to happen. The latest was January 30th, 1932. This winter season will be at least the 4th  latest for the first night of 14 or colder.  The current latest are the 1932 then January 21st 2013 and then January 15th 2012.

My snowfall so far this season is 15.4”.

CR/IC residents have been among the lucky few so far this winter.  Only a few inches have fallen up in the Mason City area.

It's been a really terrible season so far for much of the country except for some random spots such as Iowa. Even eastern Nebraska is a bit ahead of schedule, KLNK is only about 10" from seasonal average. Which isn't bad except we're probably in the run for one of the warmest winters on record so far.

Snowfall in Lincoln, NE:

2017-18: 21.4"   2018-19: 55.5"   2019-20: 17.6"   2020-21: 49.4"   2021-22: 5.1" 🤮

Average: 26"

It's been a very strange winter indeed.  Tons of moisture and extreme warmth. Barely any snow in the northern plains and snow belts of the great lakes. Only above average area right along interstate 80 from Nebraska back through Iowa.  The torch is even more crazy considering we've been in a solar minimum for a couple years now. That's one thing about this weather hobby, mother nature is never boring and will always throw you curve balls

Scratching and clawing my way towards double digits! My monthly totals look more like typical event totals. Unreal.

January of 2012 was actually a decent month around here with BC reporting nearly 26". Who woulda thought I'd be dreaming about a repeat of that winter??

Oh, and it's really krazy how I've had more snow than GR, but nowhere near the depth that area had after the NY's storm. I would gladly have switched places with y'all.

Both Jan 16th & 17th produced a whopping 0.7" respectively (1.4" 2-day toal) of snow bringing the seasonal total up to 6.8"....

1.7" For 15-17th. I win LOL.

Came home to a dense 1/2" after work. The morning 1/2" had long melted so just a grass topper system. On my way into work there were indeed a couple of brief intense SHSN with visibility close to 1/4 mile and my car thermo dropped to 31F. Otherwise it was 35F and white rain all day for Marshall. Where a little snow crust remained west of here the flakes had something to sit on and it looked much more wintry fwiw.

For one of the few time this winter I can report that 1.2" of new snow fell here yesterday and I now have a total of 1" on the ground.  At this time there are a few flurries here with a temperature of 21. Officially Grand Rapids now has 4.1" for January and now up to 9.4" for the season.
