ND/SD is obvious. One that really is sandwiched and literally gotten the shaft to the N and S is Mason City,IA - 6.8" ? That's crazy how they have been missed to the N and S. Btw- the record low seasons for MCW is 9.3" in 67-68'

The two loudest sounds known to man: a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

This storm pushed my measuring location in Hiawatha to 31.4" on the year.

Someone in Iowa could crack 55-60" before the 1st week of February is out if the two big storms in the long range end up playing out favorably.

For perspective, I was at 58.1" at this point in 2014. Helluva season you've got going out there!

ORD has catapulted to near average from yesterday's storm bringing the season total up to 14.6" (11.1" for the month of Jan).  With a few more days left in the calendar, it is probably we will likely add to the Jan #'s on the last day of the month.  2nd half rally underway.

This website keeps up to date with the top 25 snowiest U.S. cities (population 100k+). Good ole DSM is sitting at #2 in between Snow Belt cities. LNK is sitting at #10. Not something you see too often.

That’s amazing that DSM is ahead of Buffalo!

Local met on news tonight said Waterloo current snow depth is 15" 😲

After all these years of being missed to the NW, this season is certainly delivering for IA folks...looking farther down the road, I see the pattern sharing for us over here and into parts of the S MW/Lower Lakes.  This could turn into one hellova back loaded season.  Congrats!

Is this gonna be another one of those winters where it doesn't really get going til January and goes til April? Seems like that's becoming the norm.

From Milwaukee NWS:

“Milwaukee had 23.3" of snow in January...the most in January since 2005!

Another fun fact: While Milwaukee currently has it's highest snow depth in 10 years (16"), the max  snow depth for the calendar year of 2020 was only 5". This was the lowest in a year since 1953!”

ORD for the season 25.4" with a whopping 21.9" in the month of January.  We are now at a 5" surplus for the season to date.  Incredible turn around.  The Greenland Block paid dividends...glad I was able to cash in on the white gold...finally...and that goes for most of us in the MW!

Checking in from Erie. The airport should top 50” today and we passed 75” in my yard. While I’m only minutes from the airport, the difference in elevation is about 225ft, which makes a big difference along the lake shore. Another 5-10 minutes south of me, elevation climbs another 500+ ft into the heart of the snow belt and totals here can be pushing 90+” depending on particular spots. An example during December was a storm that brought about 5” of snowfall to the 1400+ elevations and 0” at my house. This is a common pattern, especially in the fall and early winter. Erie would run away with more records had they just built our airport to the south rather than west of the city lol. Happy winter

Even with the best score of the season my total is only 47% of normal to date. Tom needs to sprinkle some of his magic dust over my way, lol
