Models suggesting that this deformation band tomorrow may really pack a punch with consensus being perhaps as much as 5-6" from it alone. I'm gonna raise my call for Iowa City to 2.5" and to 5" for Cedar Rapids as a result.

2021-22 Snowfall: (Hiawatha)

TOTAL: 10.2"

(12/28: 3.0") (12/29: 0.8")

(1/1: 6.4")

This first batch of snow just isn't consistent enough to accumulate much, and now it's about to end.

NO biggie. Really was never supposed to be.Just mood flakes but better is the end of the cold rain.  have a good feeling overnight that many Iowegians are going to end up with solid 4-6"+

The two loudest sounds known to man: a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

The Hastings radar is not working. They need to get this crap figured out. Always during a weather event when it's actually needed

Sunny and dry for a month and everything is fine. First flake falls and everything malfunctions 😆

HRRR-

The latest run keeps a dry pocket over CR/IC all night.  Hopefully, it's just an odd run.

That little dry sliver right along the Mississippi River in the Dubuque area that’s been showing up on several models is kind of interesting. Any idea what that’s about?

Probably over my house because it has slowed down a bit...

Models bounce around with that feature a lot but it shows up on enough of the models and on enough of the runs that I think there probably is sort of a "blotty" appearance to the final snow map. Just gonna need the defo band to pivot over us.

That is interesting.  Every HRRR run this evening has the heavy band on the Iowa side and dry pocket across the river.  I don't know what would cause that.

I am really impressed with how far West this stretched. Much further than models predicted. For once a non bust!

Yes, very surprising. Basically sat over me for 5 hours now. Looks like several more hours. Local sheriff is advising against travel as snow is thick on the roads. I bet we see some 8” reports by tomorrow morning somewhere in the Central Nebraska area.

You should be in a warning by now!

The next wave of precip is expanding and moving up toward Cedar Rapids.  Hopefully, it'll be all snow.  Radar CC shows a lot of mix in there.

The HRRR run a couple hours ago, which showed a dry pocket over east-central IA, was just a fluky run.  The latest run has a heavy band over the same spot.  We'll probably get something in between.
