Only picked up about an additional half inch to an inch of snow in Omaha this morning, but it caused a lot of problems for the morning commute - very slow going out there. It is absolutely crazy to think that in this relatively warm winter pattern that we are in "bonus time" when it comes to snowfall, as we have surpassed our seasonal average of 28" (currently sitting at 29.9" for the season). It's insane how much snow we've gotten with torch thus far. If we move towards below average temps in Feb-March, I could easily see KLNK making a run at a 50"+ season. 1 Quote Snowfall in Lincoln, NE: 2017-18: 21.4" 2018-19: 55.5" 2019-20: 17.6" 2020-21: 49.4" 2021-22: 5.1" Average: 26"
Stormy
Yeah you guys in Nebraska were much warmer than eastern Iowa (and often are), in the last month especially, since here we had snow cover for around a month now plus many cloudy days. But my idea is we get more snow when it’s not so cold (teens or colder) as milder air (mid to high 20°s) usually means less suppression, plus milder air aloft and surface holds more moisture for heavier snow as long as it stays below freezing and are on the right side of a system. The 2007- ‘08 season was probably my area’s snowiest on record, and I can’t remember that being a really cold winter.

The pattern ended up cold enough to support snow and the west-based Greenland Block paid dividends, esp for these parts when you take into consideration how abysmal the winter has been through mid Jan.
