December 29th - 30th Snowstorm

There's a report coming out of Raymond with 7". I think 6-7" sounds like it'll be the KLNK total, will be the snowiest December since 2009. I've asked some friends how much there is but all they say is "a lot" or "a **** ton". That's helpful lol.

The NAM is losing with placement of the mixing line out in NE while the HRRR and the rest of guidance have been closer. With that in mind, I’m gonna revise my call to 8” in Cedar Rapids.

Idk if you just live for negativity or what? But clearly this map from our office has a 4" amt on GR and you're there or north of that. Yesterday you said their WWA issued had 2-6" so the 4-ish seems right. You can trade places with me any time if you'd prefer. I'd be stoked for 4" in this crap pattern.

Thanks, I'm mostly negative.   I fully expect a quick thump 1/2" and then get dry slotted only to turn to fr drizzle.  Wait to you hear my thoughts on the next storm and upcoming first days of January.

Flake size here is not impressive. I think need to be closer to WAA. Vis is down but not totally due to snow. No way 8" reached here if flake size doesn't go back to what it was.

The two loudest sounds known to man: a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

although this is a good sign from GRR AFD:

.UPDATE...
Issued at 1245 PM EST Tue Dec 29 2020

slightly sooner arrival of the snow is expected this evening so
the headline start A time was moved up.

The winter weather advisory was expanded as well.

Impacts are expected for the Wednesday morning commute for the
remainder of the CWA. As a result we will expand the headline to
include places like Lansing and Battle Creek. Mainly snow is
expected to the north of a Holland to Grand Rapids to Alma line
where 4 to 6 inches looks likely. Further south the snow arrives
tonight with a couple inches possible. A period of freezing rain
or sleet looks likely before temperatures rise above freezing
late.

Also, SWMI should do fairly decent w a 3-5" snowfall. Now that snow is arriving earlier, amts could be higher towards the 5" range.

This is crazy. It's been YEARS since I was able to use my snowmobile in December. I'm right in the bullseye in SE Wisconsin. Are we actually going to have a Winter this year?

I figured that wasn’t accurate

I didn’t either as it’s totally surrounded by snow.

Radar is extremely impressive. Winds are fairly brisk so until the snow gets more wet it will be  a little tough to measure

Right on. Red returns south of Des Moines! Wondering if some of that is sleet or very heavy snow!

Good area of mix south of Des Moines, going to lift northeast.  We will need a couple hours of 2"/hr to get the bigger totals.

The latest HRRR is down to 8", which I would certainly still be happy with.
