Des Moines officially finished with 9.6".  That's pretty impressive.  Even the Euro had dropped that area down by a few inches.

The snow rate here has finally dropped as the bright radar returns move away to the east.

The HRRR was quite good as well.  It was a bit too aggressive with the snow intensity yesterday, but got a lot right.

That very hvy snow that Iowa is having is making a B-line towards SWMI and SEMI. It will come down hard here for a couple of hours overnite. Morning rush will be a mess here for those commuters.

Looks like the Canadian is the prime winner as it was calling for a colder solution for my area the whole time. That is indeed what is eventually going to happen as most mets are now calling for a colder storm for SEMI.

I hope the Canadian can pull another win on Friday.

Tbh, this model now has my full respect. I will call it the "Canadian King." 😀

Mix has surged north as the precip winds down, as expected even by the colder models.  It appears the mix will pass just barely south and east of me.

Dry slot coming up quick.   Let’s see if it fills in.  Otherwise 3”

I see that. I do not like the new NWS radar set up. I just looked at another site and I see the dry slot. Looks like some sleet and or freezing rain could be a close call as well.

Really falling right now! Don’t really know how much we have and probably never going to get a good measurement, but it’s nice to see this snowfall!

If it snows like this most of the night I think we will end up with a good amount.

Ahhh, this is the type of snowfall I have been yearning for...just came back from a long stroll around the neighborhood.  Gotta tell ya, the Christmas lights look a lot better with about 3" of snow on them (2.8" to be precise).  The wind is gusty and coming from a direction (SE) you typically don't see during a snowfall.  This stuff is very powdery and will be easy to shovel later tonight.   Looks like my area was placed under a last minute WSW for N COOK...I don't think we'll get to 4" as the snowfall has winded down quite a bit.

I noticed parts of E IA were placed under a Special Weather Statement...

I was expecting more out of this final band.  Flakes are large, but just casual large flakes with little drop in visibility.

Some 10" reports are showing up to the east of CR.

11" report from Solon.  A couple models had the heaviest band setting up from just south of CR ene'ward and they nailed it.

Currently I’m getting plain zr with a bit of sleet mixed in.  Thought it was basically over. South n east facing windows are glazed over. Ever since the mix began hours ago, I haven’t had much additional snow accumulation. Only an inch for a total of 6.5”. The snow is crunchy and can’t blow around now. Much better accumulation just north of me as expected. I’m happy though and was neat to experience some thunder sleet and snow.

My total is 8.5", the average from three snow boards spread out in different parts of my yard.  How the heck did someone near me get 12"?
