bud2380
I just have to mention again how well the Canadian did with this storm. I just looked at the GDPS from 12/23 and it basically nailed it. Was a little high in spots but track wise did really well and ended up being very close
Tom
Just got done shoveling and the final total is 2.8"...the switchover to Freezing Rain occurred about an hour or so ago and now there is a glaze of ice on all the south and east facing windows. Would have been nice to get a 4"+ snowfall outta this one but the dry slot came in a little to far north. I'm just thankful the landscape is white again and it finally looks like winter. Congrats on the huge totals and Thundersnow out in IA! 4

hlcater
Final total of 9.2" taken from average of snow boards around the yard. Well forecast and very respectable event. Honestly the first event I can remember where I'm left thinking ... D**n did the canadian do a good job. 6 1 Quote 2021-22 Snowfall: (Hiawatha) TOTAL: 10.2" (12/28: 3.0") (12/29: 0.8") (1/1: 6.4")
OmahaSnowFan
I saw a brief video of the snowfall in Des Moines from earlier this afternoon on our local evening ABC broadcast and holy crap! It’s been a LONG TIME that I’ve seen it come down that hard. Definitely 2-3”/hr rates!
OmahaSnowFan
These reports from all around the metro area and surrounding areas make my 5.5” report seem too low. I have a good spot that normally seems pretty accurate but maybe something was off today
Popular Post jaster220
Was nice to get an invite to the party, even if it arrived last minute. Unfortunately, couldn't really enjoy tracking with any anticipation as my office wrote all week how this was a guaranteed rainer, despite ENS runs for days showing 1-2" amounts (which actually happened). I missed the snow actually falling. By the time I stepped out from work it was finished. Wind was surprisingly strong and roads were a treat. Was a double trailer steel hauler basically upside-down in the ditch on the east-bound lanes west side of BC (quite a sight). It actually looked and felt like winter tonight. Pleasant surprise tbh. 10 Quote Winter 2023-24 Snow Total = 53.1" (90% Normal Season) Largest Storm: 12" (1/12-13) Oct: 0.1 Nov: 2.9 Dec: 7.5 Jan: 31.7 Feb: 6.0 Mar: 4.3 Apr: 0.1 Avg = 59.2" (Harrison): 2023-24 = 53.1" Avg = 45.0" (KDTW): 2022-23 = 33.5" 2021-22 = 35.6" Avg = 49.7" (KRMY): 2020-21 = 36.2" 2019-20 = 48.0" 2018-19 = 56.1" 2017-18 = 68.3" 2016-17 = 52" 2015-16 = 57.4" 2014-15 = 55.3" 2013-14 = 100.6" (coldest & snowiest in the modern record!) 2012-13 = 47.2" 2011-12 = 43.7" Legit Blizzards (high winds and dbl digit snows): Feb 2011, Dec 2009, Jan 2005, Dec 2000, Jan 1999, Mar 1998, Nov 1989, Jan 1982, Jan 1978, Jan 1977, Apr 1975, Mar 1973, Jan 1967, Feb 1965, Jan 1918

East Dubzz
I really need to figure out a good place to measure at my new house, because everything I’ve tried has just been terrible, so I can’t get anywhere near an accurate reading. But I will say, the reporting of around or a little above 7” here seem to be about right on, so I’ll just go ahead and agree with that. Exceeded my expectations a little, though it was right on with the forecast. And as I shower with my picture last night, I got to see some great snowfall. Would definitely like to see some more quality of snowfalls, but we’ve gotten a couple of great ones so far this year at least!
james1976
I'm gonna call my final right at 5". Reports around the area are pretty close. After compaction I'm at about 4". I'm at about a foot on the season now. Not a bad start considering all things! This is my 2nd 3+ event of the season.
OKwx2k4
It's so great to see everyone getting snow!! Thats what it's all about! Congratulations everyone. I think most of us have cleared our "December curse of the lost snow" issues. Lol. It still can be winter in December. Still 2.5 months of viable snow pattern left. Rock n roll, folks! 4

Stormy
4 hours ago, FarmerRick said: Good snow. That’s the same amount I measured or had, minus the beer !Ha I couldn’t have used a tape measure like that because even with a ruler I really had to jab it to break through the hard crust on top. I had over 1.50” of liquid equivalent though a core sample from just over 6” of snow amounted to at least 1.26” qpf. Not sure how accurate the core was what with all of the sleet n ice, trying to push it through the crust.
Hawkeye
My core sample contained 1.05" of liquid, so the ratio was a surprisingly low 8:1. 3 Quote season snowfall: 34.8" '22-23: 30.2" '21-22: 27.1" '20-21: 52.5" '19-20: 36.2" '18-19: 50.2" '17-18: 39.5" Average snowfall: ~30"
