Black Hole 715
Pretty big news here. Biggest things being the horizontal grid resolution being improved from 23 to 13 km(vertical is unchanged so still worse than the ECMWF in that regard), the nicer part of the operational going out to 240 instead of 192 hours, and an improvement on the ensembles. Looks like some of it goes like online the 9th, and the rest on the 17th. Anyway, read more about it here: https://forum.netweather.tv/topic/81409-gfs-upgrade-coming-november-2014/ And here: http://www.emc.ncep.noaa.gov/GFS/impl.php Here is a nice summary of the ensemble changes. And how it effects things. If nothing else, see the second to last slide.http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=9&ved=0CFwQFjAI&url=http%3A%2F%2Fftp.emc.ncep.noaa.gov%2Fexper%2Fnova%2FCCS-science-Qtrly%2F2-GEFS.pptx&ei=SHJYVImsAtWyyASlooKAAg&usg=AFQjCNEUGIiqT6EGrsP_fv1XRGddvoRg_g&bvm=bv.78677474,d.aWw
