Front passed through, interestingly temps went up a degree or 2. Winds literally went from 20-22mph sustained to 8-10mph now after the front.  Still a steady rain.

Except for lots O rain today the wind and the front failed us.  I need a dog posted stat!

Did the 2008/2009 SSW precede the December 2008 arctic blast or was it the other way around? And was it a major SSW?

Anyways both worked out well for us.

The PV split in 2008/09 didn’t take place until mid/late January.

I see looking into it that it was also a North Atlantic SSW, which tends to favour the west at first and then favour the east afterwards. But even at that, its hard to imagine a late January SSW would have aided an arctic blast a month earlier. I imagine there were other factors such as ENSO and QBO that helped the pattern develop in mid December versus the SSW.

So I’m not sure if the wind failed us. I was looking at the data just now and it looked like SEA had a gust of 35mph, exactly as forecast. And several in the 30s.

I do agree that it feels underwhelmed though.

It was triggered by that crazy pattern in Dec 2008. While 1989 was concurrent.

Underwhelmed indeed. It was just blustery here earlier in the day with the one gust at 30 mph.  Like I posted earlier today the Puget Sound was laying flat down here with a wind advisory in place.  Anyhow, jakerepp got that dog posted right away so feeling better.

Had a tree fall on one of our homes at work. No one hurt, but definitely frightening for the residents. Been having to arrange temporary lodging. I don’t like wind!
