Looks like Phil is pushing this to February now!

I do remember that in the previous two SSW's the models were showing nothing for California in the extended. Then it seemed like the models flipped over night in the long range and kept getting wetter and wetter in the long range. Looking at Michael Ventrices 2019 twitter post it looks like that Jan SSW was about a week later than the current one. We got buried on the first week of Feb. So last week of Jan - First week of Feb seems reasonable.

Good example of how Canada can "manufacture" its own cold this time of year when the jet slows down on the 18z. Day 9, 10, and 11:

If I ever leave Tahoe Spokane is on my list, or areas close to Mt Spokane towards Schweitzer. It's amazing how cheap homes are in those area's. I know people are flooding into that region so I doubt it stays cheap for much longer.

Coeur D'Alene is already getting there. Average home price has doubled since the end of 2016. I foresee it trickling west from there, especially as a lot of Puget Sound area people look to relocate inside of the state.

We’ve been toying with a move to Spokane.  Seems to be gaining a little traction...

Yeah I was looking at Coeur D'Alene originally as an alternate spot but then read about the contamination of that lake from the mining days. I wondered why anyone would want to live there with a polluted lake?

We are smack dab in the middle of the valley close to the mall. There has been one freezing fog event that really impacted just north of us, up in the green bluff area (about 15min from where I am). We drove up there to visit a farm, and everything was shimmering white as it was coated. It was one of the most beautiful things I have experienced. Rolling farm land with surrounded by mountains in a coating of frozen white. It was spectacular, it looked like a picture out of a December Calendar. I will do better to snap some pictures and share in the future. I just do not want to be one of those that is like "Neener, neener, look at all the snow I get" ;) lol! So, I want to be careful and not come across as gloating.  That being said, I am loving it here, and the panic of getting or NOT getting snow is gone. As it is a more regular thing here. YES!!!

Would love to see that landscape that you saw.

There ain’t enough room for all of us.  You’ll have to stay in Davenport.

He said it might move up a week or two, not back.  I interpret that as being sooner, not later.  Perhaps I misunderstood him though.

That's how I would interpret it as well.

From what I understand it's mostly still trapped in the sediment at the bottom, but yeah it could contaminate the water. Luckily there are a lot of lakes in that region and Lake Hayden and Liberty Lakes are nice and Lake Pend Oreille is spectacular. Sandpoint is nice but still more of a retirement community.

Too many goonies and Steve Guttenbergs.

I recently rewatched Kindergarten Cop. Of course it was released on December 21, 1990, as Astoria remained locked in the grips of a very chilly stretch with snowcover. Arnie needs to make his return to the area immediately.

I think this one started more than a week before that one, but is also developing differently.

Anyone expecting a redux of Feb 2019, only moved up a week or two, might want to adjust their expectations.

My sister was in the fire scene at the school.  She swears you can see her arm but I think she’s full of it because she also thinks SSW’s are fake news.

Struggling with incessant rain/darkness is the PNW tradition of all traditions! This forum is no exception. Some struggle more early on, when the darkness kicks and you have to adjust. Others struggle most when the rain really kicks into gear (past couple weeks and continuing for the next couple months) and there is no hope in sight (no snow, no sun). And then there are those who struggle most when it just won't stop but you feel like it should by now (May and June)… that's more my style.

I think it's what bonds all west of the Cascade PNWers. Good times!

I think the weather is pretty good here. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have moved here in the first place. I’ve experienced enough bitterly cold winters to not want any. I like seeing it snow, but I’m glad the snow goes away quickly here rather than dominating the entire winter.

What’s bleak and depressing to me is not clouds and rain, but going months and months without seeing a single vibrant green thing outdoors, just browns and whites.
