That block in the LR, while too far west, is just a freak of nature. Pure latitude-wise poleward advection from the latitude of Hawaii all the way up into the Bering sea.

That was a fun run. I didn't think we'd see any craziness on Op runs for another 2 days...

Could be snowier, too! If we get blocking like that we're in for some intense cold regardless. Highs in the low-mid 20's Eugene northward. Just IMAGINE if that second block formed over the 160W longitude line. Good heavens...

Good night shift tonight. Setting the table for an epic stretch. Stock up on beer and weed cuz there will be some lengthy porch-sitting in our future.

Wow. That's WITH a PDX-DLS of a least -12mb and frozen precip. Big east wind storm with brutal wind chills!

Ultimately we would want that energy to stay cut off around Hawaii, instead of phasing into the Pacific jet like that. It's what keeps us from a true arctic blast on this run.

To be fair, there are sub-30 highs Eugene northward on this run, but I get your point. Would want to invest all that energy into the blocking.

But at some point we're talking semantics and really, truly, this is some good eye candy.

IF that had occurred, the PV lobe that's in Saskatchewan would have swung down over Spokane. As it is for PDX temps around 19 with an east wind storm would be an incredible brutal a prolific low level blast!

I've noticed even people who don't like snow tend to get pretty reminiscent about it if there hasn't been much in a few years. By the 2nd or 3rd snow of the year they're usually tired of it though.

I've had exes like that who'd excitedly stay up with me for the first snow of the year. They were much less patient with me in subsequent snows. 😂

'16-'17 was quite a busy winter. Several 3-6" events and the Jan 3-4 storm right in the middle of it all. That storm actually had me pumped up and stayed up half the night enjoying it.

I probably wouldn't like North Dakota winters though. I have limits. Averaging 4 or so months of major winter weather (this place) I can live with and if there's transition seasons. People say it "snows in June" which technically can be true if you count a trace on the ground at 5 'o clock in the morning as real snow. I haven't seen measurable snow after about May 25th in Klamath Falls, over nearly a decade of living here.

The 500mb pattern goes to crap very quickly at the end of the run. Potential to sort things out if we hit up the extrapolation station.

Ended up purchasing a white 2019 Fusion Titanium AWD with the Russet color leather interior yesterday. 31k miles and got 2.54% from BECU. Beyond thrilled! The dealership closed at 6 but I was up there until almost 7:30 as they had a late rush and financing got backed up.

Anyways, WOW, the models are sticking to their guns and then some! Very exciting potential for a 2019 redux!

I'm really surprised how warm Redmond has ran this January last 10 days. Mark was saying +7 mean for them? My highs/lows have not been significantly warm.

Nice!  I've always been a Ford guy with regards to the domestic brands (my all around #1 is VW), I really like what they have been doing with their lineups the past 5-10 years.  Assuming its an Ecoboost, which would mean it is a direct injection.  Watch out for buildup on the valves.  It's definitely a problem we have in the VW world.  I think a periodic "Italian tune-up" will help.  Congrats and enjoy the car!

At least you are ready for the snow!!!  ⛄⛄⛄⛄⛄

Of topic. I think only the 2.3 ecoboost has the carbon buildup problem. All of the bigger ecoboost motors have port injection now as well which alleviates that problem. I have a new Bronco on order and went with the 2.7 TT because of that.

Weather related. 0 precip for California in the long range models. This might be the second snowless Jan recorded in Tahoe. First one was 2015.
