Looks to me we may be headed to one of those have/have not patterns where someone gets a lot of snow and temps in 20s whereas someone else is stuck in the 40s with rain, like Dec 2008 or Jan 2004. Fine details though this far out.  Living S of Woodburn is going to suck

As is tradition (2-25-19 the exception of course).

they are the best. I'm protected typically. no trees falling this high up. I can see fire trucks heading out and transformers going in the distance... it's very fun

I do believe I just saw your video on The Weather Channel!
Just caught the end of it but it looked like it.
Edit: Confirmed it was....nice job :)

Was just going over the models over the past 24 hours leading up to the wind event last night. It appears the NAM was also spot on, like completely NAILED it. At least for my area. It was predicting 51mph gusts. Peak gusts at KBFI? 51mph. 😂

Euro was a hair stronger, while GFS completely underplayed it.

Yeah I heard sheds were blown apart in Moses Lake...Turned out to be a bit of a regional event.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Mother Nature had us focused on the left hand (snow) while the right hand was coming in for the punch!

from Mass:

Let me be honest.....meteorological guidance underplayed this seriously.  We knew it would be windy, but the forecast models (such as the UW ensemble) were only suggesting sustained winds of 15-20 knots with gusts to 25-35 kt”

———

I understand the need to rely on the GFS/GFS blend, but to say it underplayed it is wrong. Like I said in the previous post, the Euro was quite bullish with the windstorm and so was the NAM... 24 hours leading up to the event! both of which seemed to be correct. The NWS didn’t even sent out an advisory until 8pm last night after the GFS decided to jump on board.

This will be an unpopular opinion, but as a weather and climate enthusiast, I’ve learned to move away from the GFS last few years and rely more on the ECMWF. But the experts seems to be having a hard time. Maybe it’s time some of us do the same.

This was on my balcony. I live RIGHT in Downtown Bellevue. I'm on the 10th floor.
The large clanking sound is the Tower construction going on being ripped up by this wind. Things are flying around, you see transformers popping in the distance too. Trees swaying.

What transformers going off?

The number keeps going up! I’m fully expecting to be without power for 1-2 days.

We had a couple of strong bursts making our lights flicker but sounds like as usual it mostly went to WA.  4 people in my area lost power and 1,000 around the hospital area of Stayton. I wonder if they switched to generators?  Pacific Power outage map was very sad looking compared to your excitement!

PS: How the hell does only 4 people lose power?

Pretty good blow last night.  I've mentioned a buddy of mine that lives in the Skagit flats west of I-5, I talked him into getting a weather station.  He got one and we texted back and forth about seeing what kind of winds he might see, and we both be anxious to see what his station said.....aaaaaaand the power went out through the peak of the storm.  Oh well, better luck next time.

We only had a few power flickers here, and it eventually went off just long enough to reset the clocks.  Sucks for all the power outages, and hopefully nothing comes out about and deaths/injuries related to the wind, but this was a pretty fun event to watch develop/happen.

Big differences how NWS Spokane and NWS Seattle handle this storm. Spokane is under a High Wind Warning  with the same type of gusts that went through here last night. NWS Seattle waited until the very last minute to send out any kind of advisories. The winds last night hit Warning criteria for the region.

The only time I can remember SEW being super aggressive was with the great gale fail of October 2016. I think that bust bought them another decade of gun-shyness.
