January 2021 weather observations for the PNW

Bunch of shortwaves through the northern periphery of the GOA ridge. That can't be good unless the block re-organizes a bit further west.

The stone under the princess' mattress? I think that's the story. Either way, not a good trend. Very unusual feature that is throwing off the whole pattern entirely. Probably going to delay any potential for something good until 3-6 days later if model trends continue.

Second block might explode here. But it's quite far out and anything at that range won't pan out the same way. Good location, though, would like it a touch more ease, but it's okay where it's at. For now.

Wouldn't want to be in the sweet spot in the LR anyways.

Oh wait, there is none, because that stupid cutoff low brought westerly flow there for 100+ hours... Let's see what the ensembles say.

Nothing good has showed up at all in the believable range to be considered a rug pull, so that's good.

6z GFS Op was unfortunately a big setback. Ensembles also heading the wrong way. We need to see huge improvements with today's runs. Hoping the EURO saves us as usual.

Something to remember is the ensemble mean at PDX never went below -5C. Everyone kept talking about the ensembles, but ignoring that part. Unwise. 

Winter isn't over yet. Let's wait another week or two before sticking a fork in it.

Chris is a smart dude, I don’t think anyone here implied he was stupid, even if they disagreed with him.   Jesus did say something like that, but you are no Prophet and he wasn’t referencing weather.

In the end who knows. The models could flip around and still give us something good the last week of January. The pattern isn't to far off.
