January 2021 weather observations for the PNW

Snow through hour 180.

Super tenuous setup which could easily trend slightly warmer and be all rain, but could also conceivably trend a bit colder and be pretty worthwhile.

I know details don't really mean much this far out but I was looking at the temps at around this time frame... it shows mid 30s with very heavy precip. With the heavy stuff, heavy wet snow it seems, this would certainly drag the snow level down to sea level with evap. cooling for a quick couple of inches.

Still ways to go and a lot of room for improvement.

This is gonna turn out to be such a tease won't it? D**n GFS. The trough dropping down at day 10 is kinda nice! lmao. 😂

Other than that, this is a solid run inside 10 days... the real bitter arctic stuff is VERY close, just slightly bottled up in BC.

NWS SEA is attempting to board the Arctic Express with slight trepidation

The following system on Sunday shows some potential for lowland
snow due to low snow levels (around 500-1000ft). Around half of
the ECMWF and GFS ensemble members show snow but amounts look
spotty and light. NBM at Sea-Tac has a 60% chance of snow but
only a 25% chance of seeing accumulations greater than an inch.
It`ll all depend on timing (snow levels, moisture, temperatures)
which is all still uncertain. In any case, snow looks likely but
impactful snow amounts seem low at the moment. The threat for more
lowland snow continues into early next week as snow levels will
remain low, with more systems headed our way. 33

I see snow in the believable range on all the models and ensembles now. I'm going to sleep trying to dream of the goodies piling up.

It’s not quite to what I consider believable in my book, but that by far most of the models are showing lowland snow on basically all runs (particularly for my area) is definitely an encouraging sign, no doubt about it. Model agreement matters.

P.S. And for your sake, I hope Eugene’s snow drought is soon over.

It's called clown range for a reason.
