Another horrible run.

I don't get this sentiment. An onslaught of Pacific storms from the NW bringing in fresh, brisk air with splotches of low elevation snow and gobs of mountain powder is a "horrible run"?

Just wait until our next -QBO/+ENSO winter, where after a brief and dry intrusion of weak Arctic air in November, split flow takes hold through March; nothing interesting revealing itself even in the LR...aka 2015-16.

From the Canadian forum. Would be a nice surprise for Seattle if it verifies.

I think that's the 4th straight GEM run insisting Sunday's system will start as accumulating snow. Looks tough to me with Southerly flow and not a lot of cold air ahead of it though (850's around -4.)

Lows approaching from the NW rarely work out too well for overrunning since they kick off Southerly flow ahead of them. The opposite is true of lows approaching from the SW when offshore flow keeps us cooler longer than modeled.

Ridge is a notch further east and stronger this run. Base of the block looks real healthy. No ridge merger yet and we don't want us to keep propelling that trough/arctic air southward.

Was just about to mention that. Also closer with that Canadian TPV. Fairly large waffling for the mid range, though I am comparing two runs that are 12 hours apart instead of 6 hours apart like we do with the GFS at that hour.

To each their own This is not a good run if you're hoping for lowland snow. Snow maps are pretty to look at, but top-down analysis reveals marginal conditions at best for the lowlands. Hopefully I won't be in Seattle anymore for that next event.
