Can always count on the 18z GFS to give us some false hope of a better outcome.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

44/34 today.  Just checked, my low for the winter so far is todays 12Z GFS but temperature wise it's 25 degrees on November 9th!  Seems like a stat from an El Nino winter.

Also, I had 4 freezes in October, tying it with January so far.  Could end up a tie.

We always set our expectations too high. La Ninas fail to deliver a huge chunk of the time. El Ninos deliver more often than expected. Nada years are often where the good stuff happens. Also, if you don't like near perfect warm sunny weather during the summer, you're gonna have a bad time here. Forest fires do suck balls though.

In the abstract I actually do enjoy our sunny pleasant summer days. I live where it rarely ever gets above 90. What really bothers me is I have a memory of how it used to be.

Tim can just bask in it because in the back of his brain there is no memory of what a PNW summer used to look like, and how that change has led to changing foliage (Just look at all the dead Douglas Firs around Eugene.), and an almost exponential increase in summer smoke and fires.

I cannot view a string of sunny 80+ days in the summer in the context of the moment, but in the back of my mind is a movie playing of everything lost.

Hell, even I remember the summer of my early childhood from 2005-2011. Lots more gray days than sunny days. Hopefully we get a summer like 2010 to scare away the transplants and make our climate feel more "normal", at least for a little bit. It's getting more and more difficult by the year, though.

This is crap.

First of all... there is no evidence of drought up here.   And there is no drought.   I don't know what the vegetation in Eugene looks like... or Sacramento... and can't spend what is left of my life worrying about the vegetation in other regions or states.   Nature is cruel and constantly changing.

I also know our weather goes in cycles and through different regimes.   There were spectacular summers (by my standards) in this area going all the way back to the 1800s.   There have also been crappy summers throughout recorded history here.  In 2019... we had 30 days with rain in July and August.   I can't find another year with that many rainy days in July and August in the Snoqualmie Valley.   But sh*t happens.

If I lived in Eugene... I would probably be cheering for a wetter than average summer.   But I don't live in Euguene.

Selective memory.

2006, 2007, 2009 were all fairly sunny summers.

2011 was spectacular from July - September.

Yes... and I could provide you a long list of spectacular summers with very little rain in the 1895-2000 period as well.

And its not your land or my land... we are all just here temporarily.

It's honestly an amazement to me how we haven't beaten 2009's all-time record of 103F yet, despite our PDO maximum from 2014-18. Really speaks to the intensity of that heat wave. Just a perfect scenario. It will be beaten, though; sometime in the next 20 years I'd bet.

I am sure this is partially related to selective memory.   And probably climate regime change... which happens all the time all over the Earth and will continue to happen for eons after we are gone.   Either way... we are not in control of any it and what someone enjoys or does not enjoy has literally no impact on what happens.
