18z seems pretty much the same as the 12z so far. Maybe a little worse for my particular location which is located at roughly 1,600 ft above sea level 25 miles east of Salem in the Winter's Hill neighborhood of the Silverton Hills just past Drake's Crossing.

Thanks for the update Andrew!

38 after a low of 24.  The shaded areas, including the roof of the shed in my back yard are still frost covered.  Been right around 37-38 since noon, so I would be surprised if we made it to 40 at this point.

Lucky bums with your sub-40 highs. High of 43 so far here which is the coldest of the month still, should start going down again soon. Hoping to pull of something sub-40 in the tomorrow-Tuesday time frame.

I have to say.  Having that NWS office in Pendleton to cover all of the columbia basin, large portions of central/eastern OR and WA is just plain silly.

When is the NWS going to wake up and put an office in either Bend or Redmond??

All they do is talk about the columbia basin where very few live, and the Blue friggin mountains.  C'mon already.

18z seems to like the idea of some flakes Tues-Wed next week for the Sound.  Then some more to close out the month. Not a snowstorm by any means but the chances for some white stuff are there.

Kitsap tends to do well with these type of setup where there are pockets of cold air.

I’m actually liking our chances even here next week. There’s like 4-5 different windows of opportunity coming. Chances are one or two of those set ups will work out.

2018-19 didn't have any cold months there, though. 2017-18 did. My post was just about sustained cold anomalies.

I don’t know what you’re looking at?

Both Jan 2019 and Jan 2018 ran -0.8°F departures, and in fact Jan 2019 had a colder monthly minimum (-2°F) than January 2018 (-1°F).

2019 top, 2018 bottom.

The GFS and the parallel both show a pretty legit cold shot around day 10. That period is really starting to be highlighted.  Going to be a long cold snap it appears.

After yesterday's epic fail, I will now accept nothing less than 40s or lower through Valentines Day.

In 2019 we went from February 3 to like March 10th without having a high above 40.

Pretty solid run on both GFS models.  The parallel is actually pretty impressive with the day 10 cold shot.  522 thickness with Fraser outflow.

Pretty shocking the models haven't shown anything awesome in the believable range this winter, at all.

The models are showing snow for you this week.  Can't figure out why you don't like that.

It's really hard to complain right now.  The weather has turned chillier and is going to stay that way for a good while.  The region 7 MJO wave has high potential to make early February something more solid.

My main complaint comes down to details which kind of screw the Puget Sound region from snow potential in he short term.  The big picture has really improved.

Lots of hope for February still. Still have hope for us getting snow at some point this upcoming week too! I’m not betting on it but wouldn’t be surprised either.

Went down to Costco and stocked up on supplies and ice melt. Neat trick to prevent ice dams is to fill up some pantyhose with ice melt and drape it over the eve's on the north side of the house until it melts a channel through the ice layer.

If I wanted to storm chase where would a good place to stay in the area be?

We come from the land of the ice and snow.

Really nice 18z ensemble.  Solidly below the normal line for days and it's solidly picking up on the early Feb cold shot.
