Never heard of Philomath... had to look it up.    Looks like a really nice place.

Fun fact, there is also a Philomath in Georgia....The one in Oregon is pronounced fill-o-meth, but the one in Georgia is pronounced phyllo-math.  The one in Georgia is SE of Athens and is referenced in the song "Can't get there from here" by REM

When me and my friends moved out to Albany, Oregon from Athens, Georgia, we really struggled with the pronunciation.  Between the huge difference in how its said and our thick southern drawls, nobody could figure out what the hell we were talking about.

On the weather front, sitting at 37/26 with a chilly wind out of the north.  I'll be shocked if any moisture makes it up this far.

Really impressed to see a widespread 2-4" today across the mid-valley west of I-5. That matched the more optimistic model output.

Nothing much to report here, light rain and up to 40 now. I drove out to the gorge and did a super quick hike up Hamilton Mt. late this afternoon. About 8" up there at the summit and it probably snowed about 1.5" on my hike with sticking snow making it down to about 300'. Cape Horn also had about an inch with heavy snow on the way back.

Did this somewhat mirror the 12/11/2000 event? I remember that being sort of middle of the day, and Keizer, Dallas, Mac, etc doing pretty well while we just had a quick dusting in the east valley.

Nice event! Philomath is a beautiful area. Wonder how much Alsea got.

I'll have to ask my friends out there, but I'm guessing not much.  From the road cams it looked like highest amounts from the western Willamette Valley up to the coast range divide and not much in the coastal valleys.  Probably due to downsloping winds with an easterly component.

GFS is just a bit volatile lately.

Here is next Thursday... 12Z run yesterday on top and the new 00Z on the bottom.

It’s really to bad. Things were looking good. If only for an instant.

Yes sir! I couldn’t remember my login info so had to create a new account on here haha. My old account was tied to an old email address from 12 years ago.

Nice to see you posting. I have a lot of good memories tracking the events of the Pacific Northwest cold phase of 2006-12 with you around.

Those were some great times! Sure would love to see a couple of those winters play out once again! 2008 was amazing. Would be a dream to track an arctic front like that once again.

Are you Andrew that used to live in Ellensburg?

Do you think it was snowing at your place at any point today? We definitely had 2-3 hours of snow here, and it started trying to stick for a half hour or so before the changeover.

It was flurrying when I left and it sounds like we had a solid 2 hours of snow. May have been a trace but nothing leftover now.

Kinda similar in terms of where the totals added up. Much different at 500mb though with a sharper low level cold push, as a large arctic airmass was barreling into the eastside of the region that day and that snow was the peripheral extent of it. The Portland area had a modest transition event the next day into the 13th, the "highlight" of said winter.
