Euro looks kinda like 2/12/95.

That was a fun one, with a very defined arctic front. One of the few times I have experienced that in the PNW.

I am having trouble finding a 500mb map of that event... anyone have a link?

I think it was just a few days ago that the gfs was onboard and the euro wasn’t. Roles are reversed now. Gfs has been all over the place past a few days out would rather it be this way.

We had a ridge parked over us in early February that year. About a week of 55-60 highs, then it retrograded and a pretty intense, but brief arctic event followed. Idk what it was like in Seattle, but pdx had a major snow event. We had about 6” in Silverton, I think Eugene had 3”. The next day had widespread sub freezing highs, and some record lows on the 14th and then we went back to torching. Really fun event though and sharp arctic boundary. On the 12th we were low 40s in the morning while PDX had snow, and then right afternoon the arctic front slipped south and we abruptly switched to snow.

Somehow that one came through without any snow in my area.    There was a 31/25 day on 2/13/95 though.

The low formed off the mouth of Columbia and tracked south, throwing moisture over the arctic air as it spilled south through the valley. If I recall correctly we were only forecast to get an inch at the most.

Just got home. Wow. EURO sticking to its guns and then some. Timing moved ahead nearly 1 1/2 days too. Ridge merger was at Day 4.5. On 00z tonight IF timing moves ahead that should be at Day 4. Kona at Day 4.5 closes off at Day 5... Cautiously optimistic. Still no model agreement with the GFS and GEM, but as I and others have mentioned, I would much rather have the EURO on my side! I would be a bit more confident of course if we had solid model agreement. Perhaps with 00z tonight.

500mb progression is a little different but the strong lee side low, and of course the date, reminded me of it.

1994-95 was a winter that had a lot of torching, but also managed to really deliver in NW Oregon.

Was that the year that Seattle was suppose to score but at last second it went south? I remember plenty of snow and snow days. Seattle got a second chance at snow but it warmed up and they didn't get much

That is one thing we see more of up here is definite Arctic fronts.  They are very cool.

The EPS has seen a definite improving trend the past few runs.  Very nice to see that.

I think the GFS problems stem from keeping the MJO in region 6.  As I mentioned earlier the ensemble has been very unsure in that regard with members wildly scattered in both 6 and 7.  Kind of looks the model stuck its finger in a light socket.

Yeah...the 1995 event sucked balls in the East Puget Sound Lowlands.  It was either that one or Feb 1994 where Hood Canal had a huge dump and we got screwed.
